What's the point of listing your collection ...?
I only recently discovered Soundtrack Collector but it has been
a godsend to those of us seeking a copy of a rare LP or out-of-print CD.
My question in the topic heading refers to those of you members
that created your collection list on this site, but for some very strange reason, decided not to reveal it publically to other members.
I don't see the point. What is the purpose of this site if you are not going to display your collection list? If you don't wish to share
(ie. exchange an LP or CD) with others, why don't you simply keep your list on your own PC where you won't have to worry about anyone seeing it?
My list to up and posted for all to see. Its certainly not complete, but obviously its posted for a specific reason: if someone sees a score I have, they can contact me about a possible trade/exchange.
Likewise, if I've been searching for a long lost score and discover
someone has it in their collection list, I would politely asked if we could work something out.
Film music collectors are a very, very small group. My friends and I have never refused someone a recording simply because the other person doesn't have anything to exchange with. Are we so odd to feel that way?
Just the other day on this discussion group a friend saw an old message pertaining to someone looking for a very rare score.
In six months no one even responded this fellow.
Well, knowing what its like to search for a soundtrack you could never locate, my friend sent him a tape of it. And I've done the same on occaison. I know others have as well.
In conclusion good people, lets try and be less of an "exclusive" collector and share our passion for film music together.

I couldn't agree with you more... because of you (and other members like you) I have been able to collect incredibly important film music (to me) - music I NEVER would have been able to locate/actually own a copy of... If only all members felt the same way we do...

Hi Jay. I totally agree with you. Actually, I didn't realise my collection WASN'T
available for others to see, so I just altered my personal profile and it's now
possible for others to view it. So thanks for the heads up on that one.
Perhaps others don't realise this function even exists?
I haven't listed everything in my collection here - as you probably know, it's
rather large - but I'm slowly working through it. It can be frustrating though,
when one finds an album totally missing from the database. Sure, we can
request it be updated, but these are not always successful. I've requested
an update for the Michael J. Lewis promo THE NAKED FACE/UNMAN WITTERING
& ZIGO nearly half a dozen times now, and nothing ever happens. I
understand there's a very high volume of requests, but still...
I agree with you - it would be nice if we could all help each other out more,
and create more of a community feeling here. At the moment, for instance,
the focus of the two forums is entirely about acquiring or selling, not
unreasonable on a site that's called SoundtrackCollector ... but I wonder,
would a third, more relaxed "chat" forum be welcome, where people can
chew the fat and interact on a more personal level, instead of just
buying/selling/trading? How many would be interested in that...?

no official response.

Hi Jay. I totally agree. Actually, I didn't realise my collection WASN'T available
for browsing, so I just changed that in my personal preferences. Thanks for
the heads up on that. Maybe others don't know about this function?
