Biography
As well as the talent of Bossa Nova guitarist, Luiz Bonfa wrote more than 30 film scores in his 78-year life. "Este Mundo E um Pandeiro" (1947) was the earliest one among Brazilian movies with soundtracks, "Chico Viola Nao Morreu" (1955) was the first success of his guitar featured in the
movie, and "Orfeu Negro" (1959) included the most famous movie-song all over the world, "Manha de Carnaval". After moving to USA in 1965, Bonfa continued to write film scores worldwide. "The Gentle Rain" (1966) is nowadays a "standard"
in Jazz, "Pour un Amour Lointain" (1967) was with young Vladimir Cosma, and Elvis Presley sang Bonfa's "Almost Love" in "Live a Little, Love a Little" (1968). Bonfa's last soundtrack was "Prisioneiro do Rio" (1989), and he passed on
January 12, 2001.
