TRUE GRIT original soundtrack
Can anyone tell me for sure if the original music as heard in the film has ever been released and if not, why has it not?
From my own amatuer research, I believe to find that this score has been re-recorded twice not including a 'popularized' version which appeared on the original 1969 LP release.
Were the tapes destroyed? Legal issues? What gives?
I currently own the OOP version with the 8 True Grit tracks coupled with another 8 from Commancheros. I would really like to have the full score but am not a big fan of re-recordings(although the Treasure of Sierra Madre re-recording came out nice!).
Thanks!

I believe at the time of the LP's release they were going for an 'easy listening' approach, much like the rerecorded scores by Henry Mancini on the RCA label.
I have read that the Tadlow release of TRUE GRIT is very good and as close to the original soundtrack as we're likely to get for awhile, since the original masters are locked away at Paramount Pictures, and we all know how reluctant they are about licensing their treasures.

Hello,
I also wished for many years to own the full original score, But gave up. I own the Tadlow release and I think they did a pretty good job re-recording the "True Grit" score. As well as the re-recording of "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes". By the way, Is that where you got the name "bellfoosh" from?

Bellfoosh was the name of the city the cattle were being driven to in (the John Wayne film) THE COWBOYS.

Yes, The Cowboys is a film very close to my family. "Bellfoosh" is actually a river in South Dakota. While pronounced "bellfoosh", it is actually a French word spelled "Belle-Fourche".
