They're too late on this.....I've had a high-quality bootleg of the original music tracks (same total running time, incidentally) for awhile now.
They waited too long on this.....they'll never sell as many as they think they might, even with a limited pressing. It's been around too long now.
kriegerg69, July 19, 2007; 11:27 PM

I disagree. I'll bet it sells out fairly quick.
hammon, July 19, 2007; 11:47 PM

Okay, I probably should have said they'll sell out in this LIMITED number of pressings, because they waited way too long to release an official CD. Had they done this years ago, and at a regular pressing number, they might have sold more.
Either way, they've still screwed themselves because they not only waited too long, but (as I said above), the boots of the original music tracks have been out there for a very long time (and again, I have this already).
kriegerg69, July 20, 2007; 1:57 AM

Well you should purchase the 'official' release then to replace the boot. Then you are supporting the 'artist' and 'label' who spent all the effort to release the music.
natedogg_232323, July 20, 2007; 3:21 AM

I have the boot, too, and as soon as I receive the long-awaited proper release it's going back...TO THE FUTURE! Sorry that just popped out.
American.Nightmare, July 20, 2007; 3:25 AM

Why should I bother spending money I don't have for it when I already have it?
Sorry....they waited too long to release this. I have it already and am VERY satisfied with what I have.
P.S. It's also ONLY the Broughton score and doesn't include the two songs heard in the film....and I have those also.

"P.S. It's also ONLY the Broughton score and doesn't include the two songs heard in the film....and I have those also..."
gosh, you're soooo lucky, dude!
"because they waited way too long to release an official CD..."
Hey kriegerg69, don't you think they might have had "legal rights issues" (is this english?) ?
davegaumann, July 20, 2007; 12:12 PM

I think Kreiger is missing the point of an official release and I am surprised no one else has mentioned it either. I too have bootlegs and I am not ashamed to admit it, but I would always buy the official release if and when they come out. The most important aspect for me is the linear notes and the stills from the movie and the concept of the music. Most of the limited edition pressings also have missives for each track, briefly explaining them and I think it is that which is priceless. I especially enjoyed reading the notes on Die Hard, Predator and Aliens the deluxe version. I only mention those films because I thoroughly enjoy them. Having said that Intrada's release of 2001 by Alex North and the notes were also fascinating and in some ways explains the mind of Kubrick to an extent which may well explain Eyes Wide Shut, before it had to be airbrushed for it to receive an 18 certificate in the UK.
TheSaint.786, July 20, 2007; 1:45 PM

I agree with you, theSaint... liner notes are precious... and I had read the same ones (really liked the "2001" ones) ;-)
davegaumann, July 20, 2007; 3:38 PM

Seriously, folks: how often do you read them? And how often do you listen to the music? Liner
notes are nice, but a quantité négligeable.
coma, July 20, 2007; 4:54 PM

"Seriously, folks: how often do you read them? And how often do you listen to the music? Liner

Hey Coma, please don't take it bad, but I don't really understand this remark...??? If you prefer to download music from I-tunes and burn it onto a CD-r, your choice! :-) I do prefer an original CD, with great artwork, pictures, interesting liner notes,...etc.
davegaumann, July 20, 2007; 6:12 PM

I completely agree, Dave. But as the thread turned into a "literary" direction, I just wanted to
ask if there's really someone out there, who reads the notes more than once. I like extensive
liner notes and lavish booklets very much, but in fact it's like having a car which you only keep
in the garage.. ;-)
PS: The production costs for a 4c booklet with more than 12 pages can easily be higher than
the respective costs for the CD itself.
coma, July 20, 2007; 6:31 PM

Ok, cool, dude... so we both agree :-)
Actually reading the liner notes only once is quite enough, no? I'm also wondering who likes to read the same liner notes on a daily/weekly/monthly basis ahahah
But... listening to the music more than once is Ok with me ;-)
davegaumann, July 20, 2007; 6:38 PM

Who the hell wants a bootleg? I would definitley be buying the proper version. I don't want the songs anyway.
fanaticalaboutfilm, July 21, 2007; 5:20 PM

The CD will sell out with no problems. There are people who support film music and buy CD's not circulate bootlegs. It'll sell. If you only care about pirating music ...then fine, go on your merry way.
michaelp, July 23, 2007; 6:27 PM

"Why should I bother spending money I don't have for it when I already have it?"
Well, not to be TOO frickin' obvious - but - to SUPPORT film music maybe ? And to NOT be a pirate?
Having a bootleg is just dandy and nice you have the pop songs which are of little interest to those seeking the score - but this release has been impossible for years due to legal wrangling and rights issues, the same type that held the DVD release back for so long. It's a CD that both the director and composer have wanted to see on the market for some time.
BUT - you just keep your bootleg. That's one more that someone who actually is interested in supporting composers and film music labels can actually purchase.
michaelp, July 24, 2007; 10:53 AM

The pop songs, especially the terrific "Monster Squad" tune during the end credits, are most CERTAINLY of interest to those of us who want ALL the music....and the songs WERE a part of the movie.
Again.....Why should I bother spending money for it when I already have the score? Some of you hoity-toity snobs may just happen to have unending bags of money to buy whatever you want to whenever you feel like it, but some of us DON'T.
What I have as far as the bootleg works just as well for me.
kriegerg69, July 25, 2007; 1:59 AM

....and add to that (I just checked the info out), the bootleg release is a full 3 minutes longer than the upcoming Intrada release, which looks as though they've stuck together some cues (up to three in a track) as a single CD track. The bootleg appears to present each cue individually.....and I prefer it that way. Whether the bootleg actually has MORE music on it is questionable, but very likely possible.
kriegerg69, July 26, 2007; 11:19 AM

Greg, the point is - stop trumpeting bootlegs and support the official releases. I realize this concept may be lost on you, given your behavior across the internet, but hell it's worth a shot.
michaelp, July 28, 2007; 1:15 PM

Excuse me, but "given my behavior across the internet"??
What the hell is that supposed to mean? Has this suddenly become a flame board for nonsense perpetuated by internet trolls spreading lies? Explain yourself.
All my point here means is that I already have this score and am quite satisfied with what I have......so why should I waste money (which I don't have to begin with) buying it again when I could spend my sparse money on something I DON'T have?
kriegerg69, July 29, 2007; 12:50 AM

I can't wait. I have pre-ordered mine already.
