STAR TREK TOS enhanched DVD

Hallo.

Now there is a official anoucment of the STAR TREK TOS enhanched DVD release.

Not only, thet the price is horrible (218$ for ONE season box), they again missed the chance to bring a isolated track of the scores as a bonus!

I think, many soundtrack and Star Trek fans would think about spent so much money, IF there would be a isolated score!

But so, we have to wait again until a wonder will happend and we can get the wonderfull original scores from ALL Episodes!

Bestr whishes,

Jörn

This only depends on whether they HAVE any music-only tracks from the episodes, you know. Can't do an isolated score track without such tracks, sir.

Also bear in mind that in later episodes, the series had built up such a library of music cues that they periodically simply reused previously existing cues from other episodes.....and who would want repetitive isolated tracks like that?

with the exception of "elaan of troyos" and "the enterprise incident" the scores from Star Trek TOS are pretty much published (if you count the suites published by Label X in, as well)

those two scores are the only "composed" music missing in my collection. if those two come out, i´d jump to it....but all in all i am pretty content with what is there

Hallo.

Well because they upmixed the sound AND the music, iam shure, they could make a isolated music track.

Its right, many music was used several times in the series, but there a much more GREAT music, that doesent see the light of day until now ("METHAMORPHOSI", "THE MAN TRAP", "WHO MOURNS FOR ADONIS",ect).

Cresendo- records have made a good job in releasing three volumes of the original scores, and the Varese releases are also ok.
But the great scores they used for the LABEL X release are not very well presentet, because the changed the tempo in many cues (specillay "CONSCENCE OF THE KING" sounds much better when you hear the original score)!

Does anyone know, why Crescendo doesent anymore release some TOS music?
I thought, Neil Norman was a great fan of the music of Star Trek!
Doesent the cd`s sells good enough or is it just to expensive too get the rights from Paramount again?
Is his label still existing anymore ?
I cant remember, when I last saw a Crescendo-Release.

Best whishes,

Jörn

Crescendo isn't in the soundtrack producing business anymore. And while Neil Norman was a huge fan of Trek, sales of the CDs were not enough to justify more releases. Now, of course, I'm sure GNPs rights have lapsed and Paramount's not interested in licencing music from any of their series. They make far more money on DVDs and films. And before people get all bent about how "CDs would sell thousands!" they really won't and haven't in the past. It's a niche market.

I love the Trek scores, but unless someone really can hammer out a deal (like LaLaLand or someone), I'm not hopeful of future releases.

As for who would want to hear repetitive isolated score tracks for episodes using library cues: ask anyone who has the Twilight Zone Definitive DVD sets. Most of the episodes have isolated score tracks and there were repeated and heavily edited music aplenty there.
