Hi ScoreLovers

Has ANYONE got the ORIGINAL soundtrack to the Movie American Warewolf In London on CD, or where can I get it from?
I have searched eBay no luck. Please send me an E-mail if you know any information. Thanx

The score by Elmer Bernstein is available isolated on the dvd during the photo gallery montage. It's short, but covers nearly all of the music. The only piece I noticed missing was one of the dream sequences. Beautiful score!

The Meca album is junk (if you are interest in the film's music). There has never been a cd release, except for a short suite on one of Silva Screen's compilations.

That suite on the Elmer Bernstein: Film Music compilation is actually a cue not used in
the film, which, from the title of "Metamorphosis," is from the transformation scene.

It's on iTunes and it's pretty cool.

There is one bootleg for this score ( 17 tracks ) included the songs MOONDANCE by Van Morrsion , 2 versions of BLUE MOON by Sam Cooke and The Marcels .

The LP called MECO'S IMPRESSIONS OF AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON is a compilation of themes & songs of the soundtrack reorchestrated in a bad way .

Hi, I can shed some light on this. Although most people don't realize, but there is only 7 minutes of score in the entire film! The menu is a waste of time, as there is the roar of the wolf repeated throughout. I haven't heard Mecos version, but if it's as "good" as his Superman, Star Wars, etc versions I would forget it. I was looking for this a few years ago and there are no orchestral bootlegs either. The theme Metamorphasis was not even used in the film duriong the transformation scene. It was dropped on favour of "Blue Moon", but it did end up in Michael Jackson's Thriller video during the final showdown in the secluded house. Sorry I can't be of more help!

The "menu" is not where the isolated score is located you silly person. It is during the photo gallery montage, and there are no wolf sound effects.

No it isn't you ultra stupid person. It's on the menu. I have the DVD and there are is no "photo section" at all. You must feel pretty stupid now eh?

I dunno if this is a regional thing, but the R2 DVD has a photo gallery, with the whole
score isolated.

I know, because I have it and I ripped it.

I knew "Metamorphosis" wasn't in the film, but I didn't know it was in Thriller... although
to be fair, I haven't watched that video in years.

Maybe the soundtrack for "American Warewolf" can be found in a warehouse. :-)

kriegerg69, August 7, 2007; 12:36 AM

Is it really worth pressing a CD for less than 10 minutes of score?

Maybe as a bonus on another score, perhaps. Hell, John Landis has a few films without
decent score releases... whack 'em all on there.

his_dudeness2002, August 7, 2007; 12:49 AM

There might be some unreleased cues from the film...so the score may be slighter longer than 10 minutes although i doubt enough to warrent a score only release. They could always put together a remastered release with the partial score tracks and the songs featured.

neilandrewdalby, August 7, 2007; 6:49 AM

I might have guessed it could have been on THRILLER, because John Landis directed this video (great video, by the way), and I do have the old VHS... will have to check it again, when I have time.

So, I guess we would never see an official CD release of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, as there isn't enough music...?? :-( Sad.
But, do someone knows if all of Bernstein's music + the themes left out from the movie, might be long enough to fulfill a 30-40-minute CD?
Or are there only the likes of 3-4 minutes, which haven't made it to the screen? That would made it for a 10-minute record... :-/

Dear "The Dude", read your comments on AMERICAN WEREWOLF and became intrigued - want to learn more. If you find time drop me a line (bipcress@comcast.net). - JohnB

As far as Elmer Bernstein and/or Landis goes....I'd personally rather see a decent release of Bernstein's score for ANIMAL HOUSE, a favorite of mine.
