SCHOCK is one of my favorite scores of all time. So creepy, and yet funky at the same time. (and I love those wicked drum solos!) :-)

"Quick Ten" of what? I assume you mean ten of your favorite scores? Or ten of the worst?

"Splain, Loosey!" :-)

kriegerg69, August 29, 2007; 3:59 AM

Accordance is 3/10 from the first and 2/10 from the second list for me.

Plus an additional bonus point for having mentioned Les Baxter in one of your last posts... ;-)

Add these as well killer knives on your killer list...

Alfie (1966)
The Hustler
East Side/West Side
The Reporter
Mister Buddwing
I Want To Live

I think the summer heat has made me thirsty for some great jazz scores to cool off.

PS

BTW I also really like "The Grifters" score which until now, I have never seen anyone from the forum mentioning.

The movie is excellent as well!

Another goof film score... ''Romeo Is Bleeding''.

Great movie here as well!

Both scores underline the movie very well and as a stand alone listen... they are very good.

''Leaving Las Vegas''... another.

I recently purchased Isham's "Afterglow"... nice!

"Apartement #5C" by John Surman not listed here in SC's database, a haphazard purchase which I had cast aside and just recently decided to unwrap and give it a spin was very interesting.

"Eastside/Westside" and "The Reporter". Two great Kenyon Hopkins television score recordings I agree. Of the two, I've always leaned towards "East Side, Westside" as my favorite. A good series it was as well. Some cable station ran episodes a couple years ago. I watched a few.

Have you ever heard "11 Against The Ice"? Big orchestral score, different than the other Kenyon Hopkins score recordings from the 1950's as it contains no jazz.

A film score by John Surman sounds great. I remember him years ago through his improvisational recordings.

I love "The Grifters" score. Can't stand that vocal piece at the end written by Elmer Bernstein's daughter. Should have been left off the recording in my opinion.

I love jazz film scoring. A recent disc I found that turned out to be exceptional is... I can't think of the title. And if I leave this page and go to the database to look it up I'll lose everything I've written. Coma mentioned it awhile back. It's an Alex Cox film about Vegas high rollers.

4. Saw (Charlie Clouser)
5. Man On The Moon (R.E.M.)
6. Psycho II (Jerry Goldsmith)
7. Janghwa, Hongryeon (Byeongwoo Lee)

9. Blue (Simon Fisher-Turner)
10. Wolf's Rain (Yoko Kanno)

"Yellow Submarine" reminded me of another. I usually don't care for the James Bond scores by anyone other than John Barry although somehow George Martin got into the mix and created a great one for "Live And Let Die".

"1984" is a drab and dreary film. I like drab and dreary when done well. Have never heard the score recording, only the Eurythmics.

victoravalentine, August 31, 2007; 10:47 AM

Of course we can go on and on and on...

''Dressed To Kill'' was one of my first soundtracks and the music by Donaggio is excellent.

The museum piece is a classic.

The prophetic ''1984"... excellent film.

John Hurt is brilliant!

I do have the score but I can't remember how it goes.

A bit off the side...

''Dangerous Liaisons'', another initiation first soundtrack for me and besides being an excellent film with excellent performances it has a top notch score as well.

"Coma", perhaps under appreciated but another good score nevertheless.

"Logun's Run"...

How can one go wrong with a Goldsmith score.

Way off...

"Predator" by Silvestri.

I recently acquired the expanded/10th Anniversary version and the music is great!

Oh yes!... Lalo's "Enter The Dragon" and of course his music from the original "Mission Impossible" TV series.

It's a subject worth going on and on about. Whatever the subject is.

A few more words about "The Shock". It was years before I realized I Libra was actually Goblin. I had a hunch but the internet finally sealed the deal.

Hey American Nightmare, are you fond of the older horror scores like "Jack The Ripper" (Pete Rugolo) and "Experiment In Terror" (Mancini)?

I grew up with the theme from "Experiment In Terror" somewhere in the back of my mind due to late night viewings. Ross Martin weezing and stalking Lee Remick used to scare hell out of me.

Another ten...

1. Experiment In Terror (Mancini)

2. Jack The Ripper (Pete Rugolo/Jimmy McHugh)

3. Sweet Love Bitter (Mal Waldron)

4. So Sweet... So Perverse (Riz Ortolani)

5. Heartbeat (Jack Nitzsche)

6. Pinnochio (Nicola Piovani)

7. Sweet Smell Of Success (Elmer Bernstein)

8. Odds Against Tomorrow (John Lewis)

9. Klute (Michael Small)

10. Taking Of Pelham... (David Shire)

These are all scores that sealed the deal for me over the years. And the best part of it is... There's a lot more out there to discover.

victoravalentine, August 31, 2007; 11:15 PM

To be honest, wwk, I'm not familiar with either of those scores, although I probably should be! I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the tip. ;-)

P.S. I'll second the vote for THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1,2,3...that's one of the scores that originally got me into 70's crime/action soundtracks!

American.Nightmare, September 1, 2007; 1:07 AM

5. Lucifer Rising (Bobby Beausoleil)

6. Schramm (Max Müller & Gundula Schmitz)

7. Nip/Tuck (The Engine Room & Various Artists)

8. Young Frankenstein (John Morris)

9. The Bergman Suites (Erik Nordgren)

10. Kagemusha (Shinichiro Ikebe)

Crazy film, "Dressed To Kill". Some women's group staged a boycott when it was released. They had some sort of a problem with the shower scene and the fact the film makers used a body double for Angie Dickenson. I'm not sure what their complaint was. Always thought it was funny when DePalma made his next film "Body Double".

victoravalentine, September 1, 2007; 11:14 AM

2) Wuthering Heights- Sakamoto
3) Dragonslayer- North
4) Solaris/ Traffic/ Wicker Park/ The Underneath - Cliff Martinez (I realize I am cheating here but CM would take up the majority of my list otherwise!)
5) ALL of Battlestar Galactica from SCI-Fi's version of the series..mini series, season one and season two- Richard Gibbs and Bear Mc Creary
6) Stealth (score) BT
7) Lionheart Volume One- Goldsmith
