DANSE MACABRE (1964) - Riz Ortolani

Hi!...

''Danse Macabre'' aka ''Castle Of Blood'' or ''The Castle Of Terror''... directed by Antonio Margheriti.

Is anyone familiar with this 1964 horror film starring the beautiful Barbara Steele?

I remember watching it on TV as a youngster late at night and liking it.

The DVD I recently tracked down thanks to the internet is a bit different from what I remember in the sense that at times the dialogue is in English and at times in French.

Perhaps the dubbing was different.

In any case, I would like to know if any of the music by Riz Ortolani (according to IMDb to my suprise) was ever released in any format?

Perhaps parts of what he composed for the movie are in some compilation cd?

This is early Ortolani and I have not found anything in SC's database.

Has anyone else seen the movie and liked the music?

I think you're talking about the movie that is also known as LA VERGINE DI NORIMBERGA.
In this case yes, the score is available on a beautiful C.A.M. cd!

Hello Riccardo!

Close call!... You got me all shaken up for a moment.

Judging from the cover and searching on IMDb, this cd is not the one I am looking for.

Unfortunately, I cannot listen to CAM sample tracks... for the moment.

There is a possibility that the music in this CAM release given could have been used in the film I am referring to which I'll instantly recognize once I listen to it.

I'll definitely look into this CAM release nevertheless... thanks a million!

CAM has such a vast music selection with great film music...

From this record store (yes... I still visit those!) the other day I randomly purchased a CAM cd titled "Palla Di Neve" by an unknown to me composer named Carlo Siliotto and the music turned out to be beautiful!

Going back to my original question... this 1964 film has Barbara Steele as Elizabeth Blackwood taking over the screen with her radiant and unusual beauty together with another actress named Margarete Robsahm as Julia.

The film has many titles including ''The Castle Of Blood'' which is featured on the DVD I have.

It is also known as ''Edgar Alan Poe's Castle Of Blood''.

I don't believe Poe wrote such a story.

Perhaps you have seen this film.

More info here in this link...

Thanks again!...

Hi serifiot,

I have the CAM CD CSE109 of Riz Ortolani's La Vergine di Norimberga (coupled with Casanova & Company).

The sleeve notes indicate that the film has alternate titles, such as Horror Castle, and, confusingly, it is directed by Antonio Margheriti. The cast also includes George Riviere but otherwise is different. This is based on a story by Frank Bogard and dates from 1964.

In conclusion: I'd say it's a different movie you're enquiring about.

NP: La Vergine di Norimberga (a lovely theme with some exciting shock cues)

I see this movie and I must say its music is really amazing. My teacher gave me a
task in which I have to make a project on dissertation help and while reading about
it on http://www.bestbritishwriter.com/brillassignment-co-uk-review/ I am glad
that I found your post.
