Question

vacances de m. hulot / jour de fete

Hello there,
I'm looking for more detailed info about the soundtrack/music of the french film 'Vacances de Mr. Hulot'. More specific; in one scene (half through the film) a boy is playing a record with quite intense jazz music (esp. the drums are poignant).
Anyone knows more about this music? title? musicians?

thanks in advance :)

Hello Celiawenne.

The music for LES VACANCES DE M. HULOT was composed by songwriter Alain Romans. He and Jean Yatove (composer of JOUR DE FÊTE) became good friends while working on Willy Rozier's LES AMANTS MAUDITS in 1952, and subsequently Romans would collaborate with Jacques Tati on LES VACANCES DE M. HULOT and MON ONCLE (this one with Franck Barcellini, author of the pretty main title of the film). The jazzy theme you talk about is a very brief one that can be found in a number of compilation CDs with music from Jacques Tati movies (I recommend the 2002 edition released by Naïve). It's usually integrated into a longer track entitled "Ambiance Restaurant et Musique", including some dialogues and sound effects taken directly from the picture. As far as I know, this theme can't be found isolated in any other recording. I hope this helps you.

Best regards,
Angel
