*** RYKODISC??? ***
Hi folks!...
I would like to address a few questions I have regarding RYKODISC.
First of all... is RYKODISC still around releasing soundtracks???
Admittedly I believe they do (or did) an overall nice production job in releasing film scores (some if most include dialogue of course but that's okay) and the sound quality is fine.
In any case, I would like to get a few titles I don't have at decent prices so I thought to myself that their official website would be a good starting point.
I have been trying to log into www.rykodisc.com for some time now unfortunately with no success.
As you can see there is this RADIORYKO... whatever that is but no relation to RYKODISC.
Most importantly... I would also like brand new replacements of Ryko green tinted jewel cases and this other website that once offered them is not working either.
www.rykodisc.com/catalog/dump/rykoalbums_1029.asp
I hate when these particular ones come cracked or damaged and it seems I cannot find any retailer to have them replaced. I don't believe I have spotted any retailer that sells Ryko jewel cases besides Ryko. Any clues to where one could get these?
BTW I had been looking for some time now to add Billy May's ''Johnny Cool'' to my collection and luckily just recently I found myself a nice brand new/sealed juicy copy.
Cool jazzy soundtrack I might add with no dialogue!
I've got my eye now on "The Knack" by John Barry but I'm still shopping around. I don't believe I have seen the movie so what does the score to "The Knack" sound like? Is it jazzy, melodic, Bond like, brassy?
Also, does this particular cd soundtrack come with an OBI?
All copies of "The Knack" I have traced have no OBI's so I'm assuming that some Rykos might be released with no OBI's... I could be wrong.
Anyway... how many soundtracks has Rykodic released and is there any relation to Rhino? I doubt it. For some reason I get these two labels confused.
Checking quickly... SC's database shows 89 separate Ryko releases with a few titles basically being rereleases or Japanese versions like "Carrie".
Finally, just curious...
Does any of you hunt down and collect RYKODISC soundtrack titles and if so, how many of these do you have?
Is there anyone that has all of Ryko's soundtrack releases?
Let's see... I don't think I have a lot but off hand and crosschecking with SC's database, the following are the titles I have.
Johnny Cool
Carrie
I Want To Live
Octopussy
Equus
Return Of The Magnificent Seven
The Wisperers
THAT'S IT??? Hmmm... I thought I had more!!!
Some more of their titles I have are not Ryko.
Oh well...
How about you guys? Which Ryko titles you have in your collection?
Ciao for now!

Hello serifiot,
I don't have many Rykodisc releases, 5 in total.
Carrie, Greatest Story Ever Told, The Misfits,
Once Upon a Time in America (Restless/Rykodisc)
Ultimo Tango A Parigi (Last Tango in Paris).
Those releases were good, but I could have
done without the dialogue-tracks.
On Carrie they sound very shrill and
too loud in relation to the music.
The fold-out booklets are a bit clumsy
when you want to read them,
but that's only a minor point since
I usually read a booklet only once ;-)
I have no idea if Ryko is still in business.
Concerning the greenish jewel cases,
is it possible that those are the same
that are used for the Frank Zappa catalogue?
cheers, Wim

I thought I had far more than I thought. The only ones I have are
Heaven's gate
Equus
Once Upon A Time in America - Special edition
The Great Escape
I also have A Bridge Too Far and The Battle Of Britain on the MGM label both of which came with the Green cases.

I've only got two with the green tinted case that are: Crumb (David Boeddinghaus, Craig Ventresco) and Lenny (Ralph Burns).

A discount music shop here in town had about 30 RYKO discs of something or other in the green tinted jewell cases for 39 cents each.. I read someones post several months ago about needing the cases. Next time I was there I checked and each and ever one of the damn things had a nasty discount saw cut along the edge.
I need a couple of those cases myself.
As for Johnny Cool, I have the lyrics to the song memorized I love it so much. Always got a hell of a kick out of the line... "Because he thought life had abused him, he went on a murderous fling..." That's brutal!

Hey folks,
I was in a local FYE (I think that was the name?) music store and found a great deal of those RYKODISC titles on sale! this particular music store was called the "wearhouse Music" and must have been bought out by FYE! I found shopping at this store very frustrating because they would sell those OOP titles for more money than what people were listing them on EBAY!!
Anyway I guess my point is if Rykodisc is no longer selling titles you could pick some of those disc's for less than $10.00 usd, in some cases less and replace the cracked ones.
I picked up the great escape, the whisperers, equus.
you may want to check it out, they were priced fairly low.
This could be a better alternative since RYKODISC is MIA.
