Help authenticate a Flowers in the Attic CD

I recently received a Flowers in the Attic CD on the Intrada label (from an eBay auction).

I'm reckonin' that this here CD is a fake/copy/bootleged/pirated POS!!

1. The clear, inner circle of the CD has a large matrix number that y'all might see on current CDRs. It reads:5032B2514 07182 14.
This big ass matrix number has nothing logicaly in common with neither the actual Intrada label # MAF 7009D nor the barcode, nor does MAF 7009D appear anywhere in the inner part of the mirrored section of the disc like one would expect from a reputable label, especially Intrada.

2. The back insert is not perforated along the two spines. Instead, it's just been folded by hand. It's looks a little short, too.

3. The artwork is really dark, making the fine print so blurry as to be almost pointless to include. The paper is borderline tacky to the touch. It seems too fresh to be 17+ years old.

4. The barcode is so blurry that I doubt that any UPC scanner on earth would be able to succesfully get any info from it.

5. The printing on the CD smudged when it came into contact with some lighter fluid (don't ask).

If you have this CD, would you please compare your proper release to my dubious arrival, and report your findings thusly?

much obliged,
B~

Bryan... what is there to compare??? It is an obvious fake!

BTW I had no idea this score had been released.

I hope you did not pay a lot...

Sorry to hear that! It has happened to all of us if that is any consolation. Get your money back from PayPal if that was your payment method.

I did pay with paypal.
I have recourse?
Paypal will help?

Hi, I have this original Intrada release.

The inner circle of the disc itself does not have any code on it.
When in doubt, shine a light onto the back of the disc (the recorded side). If you notice a blue or purple shine, it is a CD-R. A factory pressed disc is always silver (or sometimes golden).

The back insert has very small perforations where it is folded.
The quality of the artwork is just fine and was professionally printed.

Well, I don't think I need to go on. The item you are discribing is clearly a badly made CD-R copy. By all means, try to get your money back. Most e-bay sellers will do a lot to avoid negative feedback.
Good luck!

Yes, one thing unsavoury sellers do to avoid negative feedback is to hold the buyers feedback for ransom, like the seller is doing in this situation.
She knows damn well that she deserves/expects a negative feedback for her unsavouriness, so she's keeping mine in a holding pattern until I make the first move. I leave her her well-deserved negative, and she does likewise. Like that USA/USSR nuclear situation that once existed that most of you youngsters know nothing about.

Hi Bugoobiga,

I would strongly suggest you post this over at the Intrada board as well - or at least drop them an email with the eBay seller information. They would be in the position to work with eBay to have the seller account deleted. And we all know that he/she deserves exactly that!

Then even the negative feedback you might receive won't matter anymore...

Best,
Burnie

Hi,

don't be intemidated by seller's neg-fb you may get ! You always can add a commentary to your fb indicating that this comments come as pure retaliation from a crook and counterfeiter you first gave neg-fb. Other ebayers will understand !

Hello Bugoobiga,

If you have paid a big amount of money and you want to get it back, first of all you must contact the seller. Let him/her know that you have noticed the item is an illegal copy. Then you can ask for your money. When the money (shipping and PayPal fees included, of course) come back to your account, then you can send the item back to the seller. Although you are the victim, if you offer to pay the postage of the new sending, the seller may refund the money first. I strongly recommend you to be polite all the time. Sometimes thieves try to avoid problems and decide to collaborate if the victim keeps cool. If the seller doesn't answer to your message or decides not to make a total refund, then you can inform him/her that you will contact PayPal and eBay, and they will resolve the issue. After that you can leave negative feedback for the crook. I've been cheated a couple of times in eBay, and this is what I've done. In both cases I got the money back (the first time from PayPal itself, and the second from the fraudulent seller). In both cases, the seller disappeared from eBay after I left the feedback. This kind of people use to change their user Id when they are caught, and don't bother to leave negative feedback to their victims.

Kindest regards and good luck,
Angel

Great news!
The seller just refunded the entire amount. I'm happy.
Thanks to everyone who contributed such helpful responses!
And staying calm really does help. I've learned to cool off before blasting off an email of this nature.

I just bought a copy off a website from Canada... the cover art
printing looked suspiciously dark and hand-folded.
The disc itself is translucent, you can see through it when held up to
the light.
I read the fine printing on the back side of the disc and it reads CD-R

Thankfully I didn't pay much for the disc... quickly ordering it because
it seemed like a great deal.
Kind of a bummer, i'll try to contact them to complain.
