Question

And the OSCAR goes to...

The Academy Award nominations for best original score have just been announced:

- ATONEMENT by Dario Marianelli
- THE KITE RUNNER by Alberto Iglesias
- MICHAEL CLAYTON by James Newton Howard
- RATATOUILLE by Michael Giacchino
- 3:10 TO YUMA by Marco Beltrami

Which one is your favourite score, and which one do you think will be the winner?

My choice is ATONEMENT for both categories.

Best greetings,
Angel

My choice would be The Mission - Ennio Morricone. After that travesty, the judgement of the Academy aint worth a penny! Just my opinion.

Although receiving an Oscar can still do miracles to one's career, I've lost all faith in the Academy members' perception.

It's no huge secret anymore that Oscars can be "bought" through clever marketing campaigns and sucking up to the Academy.

This year, it seems as if only two dozen films were released.
Cate Blanchett is nominated, again... twice!
Alan Menken gets a statue every time he records a note - he's nominated three times this year!
etc.

Okey, I admit that uncle Oscar stinks. Anyway, lets have fun with him. It's only a game. There are five unless interesting movie scores in the list. They may or may not be the best scores of the year (in fact I miss Desplat's LUST, CAUTION in the list), but someone in Hollywood has made that list with those five titles. If you have seen any of these pictures or listen to any of the soundtracks, then you can choose the one you like the most, can't you? Come on guys, go ahead and pick one. It's so easy.

I predict that Gustavo Santaolalla will win a Lifetime Achievement Award given he's not nominated in the Best Original Score category this year.

I haven't seen any of these... yet, sorry... but I did see "My Blueberry Nights".

Isn't this the first year that the 'For Your Consideration' promo CD's have not been given out to the Academy members and supposedly their vote will be based solely on how the film score is used in the film and not how it stands outside the film as a solitary listen???

In other words... they actually have to sit through (or pay someone) and view the films nominated to cast a fair vote.

Damn... I should be up there to present the award!

HEAR YE! HEAR YE! HERE COME THE ROMANS!

And the winner is...

"KISS MEETS THE PHANTOM OF THE PARK"!!!!!!

Of course ATONEMENT is going to win, one of the most predictable winner in a long time considering the movie (drama) an its popularity.

Personally, I´m really happy with the nominations for Giacchino and Beltrami. VERY welcome suprises.

And I like James Newton howard but Michael Clayton is not by far one of his best.

David Shire should have been nominated for Zodiac...

I thought Michael Clayton was a brilliant score and hope that wins, but I'm pretty sure Atonement will get this.
