Mary, Queen of Scots on Intrada

Finally, a release on CD of this score. Unfortunately no extra tracks or expanded release. I
don't know if there was more music in the film, but the DVD with isolated score mentioned
on this site indicates there was quite a bit more. The soundtrack album was a rather
short one with a few repetitive tracks (who needs Vanessa sing Vivre et Mourir twice? Clearly
a filler, not a killer). Still, this one was once considered a triptych with The Lion in Winter and
The Last Valley (the latter also only recently released officially on CD), all three excellent
scores. So I guess we should be glad with this CD premiere. I wonder if and how fast the
3000 copies will sell out. It will probably be about the right number of CD's they can sell of
this score anyway. It's not as good as Lion in Winter, but has some very nice tracks. I
ordered a copy to replace my scratchy-sounding vinyl just to hear those few minutes more
clearly. Sadly, a missed oppertunity to add some extra music (even in mono or anything) to
bring it to CD-length.
