Klute - bootleg or not?
Dear friends,
I recently bought a copy of the Klute soundtrack (not the reissue on Harkit).
As far as I found out there are two pressings of this disc: one made in 1977 (?) - a semi-official after hours pressing and one much later (perhaps even recent).
The question is: how do I know an original first pressing from the later pressing?
The dealer sent me this info, but I'm not sure if he's correct:
1. It doesn't have a phony label or WB stamp on it which I've heard the fakes do.
2. The sound quality is perfect. Even the bootleg CD version, which I've actually heard firsthand, has a ton of tape noise. Probably because it was mastered from an older bootleg.
Your help would be much appreciated!!
Best, Freek

Klute was recently released by Film Score Monthly. The sound quality is up to their usual standards and it is the first official CD release that I am aware of. See here:

See ya later.

Thanks for your reply, but this doesn't really answer my question about the differences between the two vinyl pressings. Best, Freek

Look at the scans on this database.
The original pressing (Brother purchased a copy in Chicago in 1979) has a red/black cover with an image of Donald Sutherland. The Harkit has an entirely different cover.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say.. "It doesn't have a phony label or WB stamp on it". The Harkit is a British reissue lacking one track and from what I've heard, produced by hacks.
I have a copy of the Harkit "Cul-De-Sac" LP, Reissued from a obscure vinyl EP. The sound quality is good and I've always been satisfied with it.
