Film score recommendations?
Hello,
Anyone have some recent film score cd's they would recommend to the rest of us? Any disappointments as well?
I recommend:
"Guerra e Pace" (War and Peace) By Jan A.P. Kaczmarek
"One Night With the King" By J.A.C. Redford
My Disappointment:
'Treasured Island" By Nicolas Dodd
Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.

It's great!

Everyone has different musical tastes, so how could there ever be a right answer to such a question?
I will agree that "One Night with the King" is unexpectedly good. I also liked "George and the Dragon" (sold out), "Atom Nine Adventures", and "Butch and Sundance" from MovieScore Media. Actually I'm kinda surprised "Atom Nine" hasn't sold out of 500 copies yet. It's a superhero type score.

My actual disappointment is Carter Burwell's "In Bruges". It lacks the punch and melodic twists
and turns that usually distinguish his work. One of the rare examples, where a movie is much
better, than its score.
TI wasn't a complete disppointment to me, but it was sure not as gripping, as Renaissance.

Thanks for recommending Guerra e Pace and One Night with the King. I will order them now.
What about Caravaggio by Luis Bacalov? Has anybody listen to it?
I recommend:
Chiara e Francesco by Marco Frisina. Very beautiful.

Hey coma, long time no see!
"A Simple Plan" is my example of a pretty good film with a not so good score. I've always felt that Elfman was doing a "Klute" emulation with that one.

I had the same impression from the sound samples: Treasured Island -- not much interesting, Atom Nine Adventures -- excellent. So I bought the latter only.

I will echo the recommendation of Basil Poledouris' last score The Legend of Butch and Sundance. Get it while you can. It is hard to go wrong with anything he composed.
I am also loving North and South by Bill Conti and hope they will release Book 2 at some point.
