The Varese OST, by far. Varese Sarabande VSD-5263. The Bremner re-recording on Silva is longer, but the orchestration is different and not right for anyone who remembers what it sounded like in the fillm.

Agree - Varese Sarabande VSD-5263 - this is the best.
I have (both) the Silva issued re-recordings, but nothing is like the old original.

I would get the Silva (the second edition, not the first) as well which is not expensive if one shops around. The orchestration and especially the sound quaity are fine!

PS
It can also be downloaded trough Silva's website.

There's also a recording from the early 60's by Walt Dickerson called "Vibes In Motion" featuring intrepetations of the Jarre music. It's a free form jazz deal that starts out by hinting at the themes and then branches off into unknown territory. I like it. Walt Dickerson recorded another "Impressions Of A Patch Of Blue".
