MEET MR. WILLIAMS AND MR. MORRICONE

I don't know how it happens but it does but I don't know if I am doing the right thing but I think it is only fair to share, so here goes. I happened to be in London and was passing through, I think I had been to a meeting and passed by The Barbican. Those who haven't been or haven't heard of the place its where the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is conducted from or housed at, if that is the right terminology. So, anyhoo, I pass through and John Williams is conducting the LSO and is adding the finishing touches to the new Indiana Jones film The Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls, I think. It's the Raiders March he is playing out and I applause. He leaves the stage and for some unknown reason, I am 5ft 10ins, Williams towers above me by several inches. With his facial hair and glasses and a grey blue sweater I ask him when he is going to hold a concert in the UK like some of the greats and I mention the late Jerry Goldsmith and Ennio Morricone. He replies he is thinking about it and giving it some serious thought and goes on his merry way. Strange don't you think. Until...
Three days ago Ennio Morricone comes to a friend's house and I happen to be there. Those of you who have been lucky to see him after a concert, I am one of those, will know that he dresses immaculately. So he sat there with a black suit, his glasses and a hat. I ask him some film related questions and telling him I hoped he won his Oscar for Malena. He speaks little English and I have trouble communicating 'cos my Italian...well there is no Italian. So I get tired and decide to leave and that I will see him the following day. I go round the following day and my friend's mum tells me he left at about 5.30 in the morning. Gutted!

You've probably guessed by now that these are two totally separate dreams. What they mean, I haven't got a clue. Why those two composers, I don't know. Perhaps you may want to share something similar, if you've experienced it.

Any shrinks in the house, perhaps!?

(Off)
I'll be with you in just a minute Mr. Horner, I'm just finishing off an email!

You had me going. I was believing every word of it yet in the back of mind, wondering... Is guy lying?

Shrinks stay the hell outta here! Never listen to what those pinheads have to say.

I had a dream several years ago. This is what I remember of it...

For some reason I was trying to find a house in Los Angeles. Possibly to give an estimate on a paint job as that's what I once did quite often. So I find the house and knock on the door. I hear someone in the backyard say, "Back here!" I walk around back and it was Jerry Goldsmith looking at me in a way that gave the impression he was thinking... What the fuck do you want?

I'm looking at him and begin to say, "Holy shit, Jerry Goldsmith. I've enjoyed listening to your film scores quite often". He stands there dressed in white tennis shorts and shirt holding a tennis racket and being a total all out twit. About that time I'm beginning to think, "Screw you prick!"

Dreams are strange. I have no doubt that Jerry Goldsmith was a decent guy. I base that assumption on what he did for a living and how he did it. The sort of person in my dream is the sort of a person who as a rule rarely accomplishes anything in life deserving of respect.

The person in that dream was a lot like actor Kurt Russell is in actual life. I worked at a gas station in Los Angeles and saw that guy twice a week when he came in for a fill up. A total punk in my opinion.

I was trying to pitch it as a film with the surprise ending. I was telling it how I remember 'cos it felt that real. I was really upset at not being able to communicate with Morricone because of the language barrier even though it was a dream. With your experience of Kurt Russell, he comes across quite okay at interviews, affable. But if what you say is true then he really is an arse. I had a friend of mine who went on one these Sci-Fi-Bi-Mon-Cons somewhere in the Midlands and he met Robert Vaughn (Napoleon Solo), he was signing photographs. He was charging like $14 for each signature and some guy went up to him and asked for a photo (he already bought the signature) and he wanted to charge him an extra $30. He sat there like a right twat ignoring everybody. I used to like Solo, now I can't stand the guy. He recently got a break on the BBC in a con soap called 'Hustle'.

"Hustle" was on in the USA for awhile about a year ago. I usually avoid watching television except for an occasional film on TCM every now and then. Watched "The Most Dangerous Game" (1931) a few nights ago. Strange film.

Most of the well known faces who frequented the old Chevron station I worked at were decent people. Alex North and his wife Anne did business there. Talk about a nice woman, Anne North was always friendly and kind. Alex North would sit in the passenger seat without saying a word staring straight ahead.

Kurt Russell was like a snot nosed 9 year old kid in need of a spanking. I almost told him to go screw himself once or twice.

Your recall of the details from the film is remarkable. Usually dreams mean you have some unfinished business with these composers. Maybe you havent fully appreciated their work or still need to get one or two of their scores. Tricky with Morricone doing so many... You wanted to applaud Williams. With Morricone have you missed seeing him perform ?

The dream needs more analysis. It can be quite revealing down to the score being performed etc.
