Question

What film scores are you listening to right now?

Hello,

In my cd changer right now:

F/X - Bill Conti (not sure I like this score very much?)
The Legend of Butch and Sundance - Basil Poledouris (Very Good)
One Night with the King - J.A.C. Redford (Great Score)
Magic - Jerry Goldsmith (Very creative score for this film)
The Bride - Maurice Jarre (Beautiful score)
Guerra e Pace "War and Peace" - Jan A.P. Kaczmarek (One of my favorite film score purchases thus far this year)

What are you listening to?

Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.

MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS (Barry) - although I already knew it pretty well, the Intrada release immediately revived my pleasure with this score. Since I received it, I played it much more often than the previously unreleased CDs I got in my latest SAE batch. 5 stars.
MONSIGNOR (Williams) - the biggest surprise to me. Sometimes reminiscent (to my ears) of Rota's GODFATHER. A very pleasant surprise. I usually skip the Gloria though ;-) 4 stars.
NORTH AND SOUTH (Conti) - solid and with nice moments. But not overwhelming. 3 stars.
ALIEN - as a standalone listen, just every once in a while. 3-4 stars.
MYSTERIOUS ISLAND - I'm not enjoying this as much as FAHRENHEIT 451. A bit of a tour de force. 3 stars.
TATTOO (Todsharow) - also not overly interesting as a standalone listen. 3 stars.
LISSI UND DER WILDE KAISER (Wengenmayr) - although I didn't find it very interesting in the first place, I find myself putting it back in the player time and again now. If only Wengenmayr would have a serious movie score release by now (he keeps doing music for spoofs). 3-4 stars.

Hello.
Right now I'm listening to ELINE VERE by Laurens van Rooyen. Not great, but yet a nice score from 1991. I didn't know the music nor the movie, and it's been a blind purchase from a Belgian seller in eBay.

regards,
Angel

(serifiot) "Candyman" is a pretty intense film. Cabrini Green (right spelling?) where the film was shot is on Halstead in Chicago about a mile from where my two brothers lived in 1977. I has no idea of the history of violence at that place as I often walked by on my way to the Loop (downtown). A good film and Phillip Glass score.

I see Neal Hefti mentioned. Love the old Hefti scores. He was in a car accident and nearly died back in the 1940's.

I've listened to the complete release of "Taxi Driver" (Bernard Herrmann) a couple of times recently. The fault I find with it is after all these years the musicians are still not credited. That's Ronny Lang from the big band era playing the theme on sax and I'd bet money that Vic Feldman was one of the players as well.
The complete release of that score makes the old and poor Arista recording more or less obsolete.

Right now I'm listening to "Star Wars-Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" on my iPod. In my opinion, one of the best scores ever written by John Williams and, arguably, the best of the Star Wars saga.

MARK OF THE DEVIL I & II... aka Hexen I & II ~ Michael Holm

Overall... both scores to "Mark Of The Devil" by Holm are excellent!

Not to disregard the score to its sequel which is competely different from its precursor which in fact makes it unique by being fresh and nonrepetetitve, the main theme from "Mark Of The Devil" together with "Cannibal Holocaust" by Riz Ortolani have to be amongst the the most beautiful & eloquent main themes composed for horror films.

These two main themes especially the recurrent main theme from ''Mark Of The Devil'' seeping in throughout the score has gentle, romantic, hopeful strokes with a caress of melancholy.

I believe Mark Of The Devil I & II are the only film scores that Mr. Holm composed... quite unfortunate.
