Baby, Secret of the lost Legend (Jerry Goldsmith) released

For the people who may have missed the announcement,
Intrada has released the score to this Disney film from 1985.
It was released less than two days ago (3000 units)
On their site Doug states that this one is selling very fast,
2/3 is already sold. At http://store.intrada.com/ you can hear samples.

Down to the last 100 units. Definitately a new record for a 3000 unit sell out. Well done, Intrada!

Sold out!

peter-anselm, April 9, 2008; 4:26 PM

These sell-out notices are purely ridiculous and stupid. You all should know, that about 50% of the editions are bought by retailers where you'll find them, when the shipments have arrived.

coma, April 9, 2008; 4:56 PM

That´s right and everybody knows, but you won´t get it anymore from Intrada (and a lot of people order directly from Intrada). But i also remember when Inchon was released and a few days later the retailers were also sold out.

With Baby it will take a little bit longer.

peter-anselm, April 9, 2008; 5:06 PM

50%?

Intrada said that they have recieved more than 2000 orders yesterday.

senchi55, April 9, 2008; 5:29 PM

Hi Coma. Sorry, but YOU are being ridiculous! I know the point you are trying to make, but do you not reallize that a limited-to-3000 unit score has never sold through in 2 days?

Screen Archives is sold out.
Movie Music is sold out.

I think you will find this to be truly sold out in a matter of a day or two, not weeks.

Hello,

Last time I looked it was still avaliable on the BSX and Chris' soundtrack corner website, But you better hurry!

Best Regards,

As all we know, BSX claiming they have it, doesn't necessarily mean they've got it on stock (or will have it). So try elsewhere before contacting these guys...

Ok I didn't make it to purchase Baby. I will survive !
If intrada wants to earn more money , better avoid such silly “limited editions”.

Actually Intrada makes money by keeping the limited edition to 3,000 copies which sold out in days. If they invested in 5,000 or 10,000 copies or more, unsold units will languish in their inventory and it will take much longer to make a return on their investment. Smart business move, IMHO!

You have to order the Goldsmith ones ASAP or else they are gone. There seems to be legions of Goldsmith collectors out there and his OOP can go for big $$$$. They are wise to make them limited because they sell out quickly and make you want more plus some people may order something else on the same order. Lets say they made 5000 copies no one would rush and they would languish on the shelf. This way they sell out in a few days and they can move on to the next one. 2000 X 19.99 = $60,000 not too shabby

itsthenikita, April 10, 2008; 2:09 PM

This particular Goldsmith release of Baby was never issued as a legitimate release and Intrada was the first so this 3000 sell out was very predictable and inevitable since more than one copy was probably purchased by many collectors and surely enough numerous copies by various business retailers. I think it sold out faster than Inchon. BTW, this is nowhere to be found at a low, normal price. It has been sold out from every major retailer I know of. Some European retailers have it but it's almost double the price. It will be interestting to watch how much this will fetch on eBay.

One thing for certain, even though USD $60.000 is more like 60 cents to Disney but certainly rewarding to Intrada, this Baby success story might give the green light for other future Disney releases a lot of collectors have been righteously whining about and patiently waiting for. I don't know what the deal was but I have a feeling that Intrada had wished this was limited to more than 3000 copies.

It is sold out at INTRADA and SAE, because they do sell numerous copies to anybody who aks and is fast(er) than others (I asked SAE and they admitted it - I can send ya the mail if you don´t believe it). They just don´t care where the money comes from, if from a true collector or from a secondary maket shark. This might be a clever idea insofar as they get back their money fast, but it is frustrating for the true and honest collector, who just wishes to have ONE copy at a decent price.

Of course the CD-print-run is only "sold out" at SAE and Intrada and maybe a few more, because others are hoarding copies to sell them for a double, triple or even more of its initial price lateron in the www.

NEVER has any 3000 copies print-run sold out in 2 days, so copies will show up on e-bay. I am sure it will initially fetch some higher prices there, but since there just aren´t 3000 Goldsmith or Disney-collectors out there to swallow up 3000 untis that fast, it will ultimately end up on e-bay for something from 50 to 100,-- US (some exceptions are of course possible).

The same has happened in the past with other CDs (which did not sell out that fast), so finally everybody will get his/her copy, BUT the shit-thing about this is that for the producers and bigger retailers it is just completely uninteresting to sell them CDs to dedicated collectors, they just care for the money.

That´s a pity because it would be NO TROUBLE for them to limit every order to 2 copies per person. Then it would be sold out in 2 months instead of 2 days and many collectors would save a lot of money ... a shame for them, I am truly fed up !!!

wmjahn, April 10, 2008; 8:06 PM

In fact, I remember that in the past SAE announced they were selling only one copy per customer of some titles that were about to be sold out. I think this is a good practice and helps true collectors, or simply those persons who are really interested in purchasing the concrete CD.
Regretedly, in recent times SAE has abandoned that practice and seem to sell as much CDs (of the same title) as the customer wants. It's a pity, but ultimately they need a lot of sales to keep their bussiness in good health. The same regarding to Intrada.

angeldibujo, April 10, 2008; 8:34 PM

@chansteele: So what? Is this a game? Or ist the CD any better when the edition is sold out? Or did you order a handful of copies yourself and start to get crazy about the expected gains?

PS: I said IT is ridiculous. You thought it would be clever to say it's ME. Guess who's the one who lacks brains and educational background?

coma, April 10, 2008; 9:07 PM

I may be wrong here, but my understanding was that with full orchestrated film soundtracks, there are PRS implications that often make a full release unprofitable.

Given the speciality of these releases the 3000 units to some extent caps the royalty liabilities and makes it a feasible venture to release these limited runs.

Frankly, I'm grateful that there are people out there willing to back these releases.

3000 should comfortably satisfy the worldwide Goldsmith collectors market, though as with Inchon it would appear that much of the stock has been sold to dealers.

groovemachine, April 11, 2008; 6:05 AM

Can someone or has someone located where to order this cd that is in stock?
