LOTR: Return of the King (Complete Recordings)

Hi everybody!

Some time ago I read that the first edition of the complete recordings of "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" was sold out, and that Reprise Records would be releasing a second edition in short. Anyway, I've seen this Box getting harder and harder to find, and the promised "second edition" looks like it had been cancelled. I'm getting worried, because I did not purchase the box when it first came out, and now the price is growing up day after day.

Does anybody know what happened to this release? Every information will be appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,
Angel

Hello Angel,

I know that up until about 3 weeks ago Screen Archives Entertainment was carrying this title. So I contacted them to ask them about it. I was told that reprise isn't sure that they are going to make this available in the future. They can't seem to make up thier minds. So, SAE does not have anymore and don't know if they will.

So, The only place that it was avialable was Amazon.com. I decided to get it there though it was expensive ($70). I have checked all over the internet for this and did not find it anywhere else, even though some places had it listed for backorder (CDUniverse, Circuit City) they no longer have it listed at all.

Amazon may still have it (they did a week ago) so you might want to pick it up there. Good luck!

I have an extra, sealed copy. I can sell it for 100 €.

Hello!

Many thanks to both of you for your answers and your help!

Finally I've decided to pick a new and sealed copy at the Amazon marketplace for 60.59 € (aproximately $96.50). It's not cheap, but is the lowest price I've found all around. If Reprise Records doesn't re-release this edition soon, I'm afraid it will become a highly collectible and growing expensive item...

Best regards,
Angel

Hi Angel

Man, I can't believe you left it for this long. This really is a magic trilogy and the music is as brilliant as the films, if not better. That is my opinion, but I remember reading somewhere that, as Mozart's music is still enjoyed today, as will Shore's be in a 100 years time. Whether it gets re-issued, yours is as good a guess as mine.

Glad you got it though!

That was the question, TheSaint...

I didn't think it would be sold out so fast. The two first boxes are still widely available, even at good prices (I purchased my boxes after some time, and so I could find them in new condition for less than $40). I thought this time would happen the same, but suddenly, after a short time, the third box disappeared from stores. Then came that rumour about a re-release, but it seemed to be only that, a rumour. I wish Reprise release this box again for everyone that, like me, didn't purchase it on time. It's really painful to see how the prices are increasing more and more each day. In any case, I'm happy to have get it at last :)

See you in cyberspace!

I have no LOTR CD scores, no LOTR DVD's... well except a newspaper promo DVD that I still have not watched.

I don't think I have the patience to go through watching the whole series of movies.

Am I doing an injustice to myself? I don't know.

How many LOTR films are there? How many scores of LOTR are there?

How much music inspired by LOTR and how much music inspired by the albums that were inspired by LOTR are there?

Just curiously enquiring... too compicated.

Anyone else who is not familiar with LOTR music or is it me?

Anyone familiar with LOTR music but rather take a dump instead?...

In a nice pool of cool, fresh (or salted) water I mean.

Each to his own my friend, each to his own.

I hope that one can see that my silly comments were meant as playful and nothing more than that.

I cannot prejudge a score I've not listened to and a film I've not viewed... it's not fair but even if I do have a personal opinion concerning a particular score, it's my own personal opinion...

It is always good to ask though, even if music is a personal and subjective experience.

One day... perhaps, when I have the time, LOTR will have its time.

There is so much film score music out there to explore (sigh!).

I'm remaining optimistic that more LOTR reissues will follow, look at "Star Wars"... a prime candidate.

BTW, the third one by RR is still around (to a lesser degree) at a decent price... one has to patiently look for it.

Enjoy the music!...

Have to fly...

I found a copy at the BEST BUY store in my town (Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA) for $62.99. WAY CHEAPER THAN YOU WILL GET FOR IT ON E-BAY! I am pretty sure other BEST BUY's around the USA should still have a copy left---must only be online that is sold out!

I do not have the first 2 complete scores, however, I probably will have to get them now that I will have the last one.

Enjoy the music!
