Baby: not a beauty

All this fuzz about this score. I'm a collector, so i got it, but guys; haven't we heard all this before? And better? No beautiful melodies, just that average Goldsmith-eighties sound. Didn't surprise me; happens a lot with Goldsmith's scores to me. The same happened with 'Explorers'. It's all not bad, but in my opinion, no beauty here....

"I'm a collector, so i got it"

You shouldn't have opened it, then!

No beauty on EXPLORERS???????????????????????????????

I happen to own the "Tribute to Goldsmith" that contains 4 cues from "Baby" and, eventhough these are not top notch/Graal Goldsmith material, they're still amongst the best he's composed, so I do expect better than "average Goldsmith-eighties sound" from the "Intrada" album!
Unfortunately, I haven't received yet, so I'll let you know when I do.

(Dirk: I think you simply don't deserve your copy!)

It's a matter of taste. Not everybody likes the same things.

I love the music for EXPLORERS, and what I have of BABY (the tribute to Jerry Goldsmith CD) is, in my humble opinion, amazing.

A matter os taste. Nothing more.

dirk.j.jansen:

Are you selling it? And how much?

tharpdevenport, April 19, 2008; 5:30 PM

Congratulations for your honesty, Dirk. We need more of that.

handstand, April 19, 2008; 5:38 PM

Why exactly did you buy this cd, Dirk?
Its not like its a new score.
Everyone who loves filmscores knows its a class act and been praying for its release!
Well, everyone it seems bar you!

darryl.low, April 19, 2008; 7:49 PM

I disagree -- I've never heard a note of the score either and I also bought it despite that because I'm interested in hearing the score. But to already know it before I would either have to--
a) watch a film I have no interest in
b) obtain an illegal release of the music
c) pay lots of $$ for few tracks on an old collectors SPFM sampler
--and I didn't want to do any of that.

I liked the samples but I'll also be a judge when I hear it, not earlier.

IMHO, Explorers is one of the best scores by Goldsmith!!

tyuan74, April 19, 2008; 9:40 PM

LOL
Dirk!! you just didn't know what you was writing, right? ;D

but hey look how many people you've made angry... this place's supposed to be quiet! now everyone crawl out of their hobbit-holes! see what you have done, Dirk!
was it kind of a gag to bring some action around here?

why don't you post the same on the FSM board? jeesh

you made me laugh really loud! ROFL xD

GOLDSMITH RULEZ

Thanks again, Dirk. The hysteria displayed by some here proves that you are absoluty right. Long live heresy! :-)

handstand, April 20, 2008; 4:52 AM

I love Goldsmith. Got about 150 CD´s of him, but i agree with handstand and Dirk: it is not an outstanding score compared to many other Goldsmith masterpieces. I heard it once, but it didn´t overwhelm me. For completists its a nice release, for all others no must-have.

And why is it heresy to criticize a composer for a part of his work?

peter-anselm, April 20, 2008; 8:13 AM

I actually did not mean to give a judgement about this particular soundtrack release (from the BABY tracks on the SPFM Goldsmith tribute CD and the samples at Intrada's website, I wasn't interested enough to order the new CD). I was just meaning to support Dirk against the intolerance voiced here.
