Forum - Looking for a soundtrack

Question

In search of RARE and/or NEW moody, dark, and heavy scores.

I've been out of the loop for about two years or so. Used to be an avid collector--fell out of it for awhile. I use scores not only for pleasure, but in my work (writing). I'm currently looking for any tips on where to find "that score" that will help.

If it's something you think is rare and would be somewhat hard for me to find or come across, that's a major plus.

Anything that strikes you as somewhere along-the-lines of these:

Howard Shore - The Game
Cliff Martinez - Solaris
Michael Convertino - Children Of a Lesser God
Alex Heffes - Touching the Void
Alexandre Desplat - Birth
Robin Guthrie & Harold Budd - Mysterious Skin
Thomas Newman - Road to Perdition
Asche & Spencer - Monster's Ball
Philip Glass - The Hours

All input is welcome, although preferably outside of these composers. (I've collected most of their work already.) Hopefully I've painted the picture of what I'm looking for. If not, simply disregard.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe ONE HOUR PHOTO, by Reinhold Heil & Johnny Klimek, could be of some help.
INTACTO by Lucio Godoy is also an excellent example of what you are looking for, not to mention some of the scores Howard Shore composed for David Cronenberg's movies, specially SPIDER, CRASH (1996), EXISTENZ, VIDEODROME, etc.
Mark Isham could be interesting for you too. Try CRASH (2005), THE BEAST or THE HITCHER.
Another moody and dark addition to your list is THE PRESTIGE by David Julyan... But, there are so many!

More titles: DE ZUSJES KRIEGEL (Hans Helewaut), L'ADVERSAIRE (Angelo Badalamenti), MICHAEL CLAYTON (James Newton Howard), THE CROW and RED PLANET (Graeme Revell), DONNIE DARKO and CYPHER (Michael Andrews), K-PAX (Edward Shearmur), INNOCENCE (Kenji Kawai), WHALERIDER (Lisa Gerrard) and THE INSIDER (L. Gerrard & Pieter Bourke), THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES (Tomandandy), NOS MIRAN (Bingen Mendizábal & Borja Ramos), STRANDED (Javier Navarrete), UNITED 93 (John Powell), THE THIN RED LINE (Hans Zimmer) and THE PLEDGE (H. Zimmer & Klaus Badelt), THE PIANO TUNER OF EARTHQUAKES (Christopher Slaski), ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN (David Shire), TIERRA (Alberto Iglesias), FUR: AN IMAGINARY PORTRAIT OF DIANE ARBUS (Carter Burwell), THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE (Christopher Young), etc., etc., etc..., to name only a few.

Good luck and happy listening!

Best regards,
Angel

Free downloadable mixes. The series Ethni-city and Sol-System would work well here. The other 2 series check but the don't have the same feel. FYI-I'm not involved with ambient-nights, just a fan.

Cheers all and thanks too for the suggestion. Hope these help also in your search :)
