Picnic At Hanging Rock (Gheorghe Azmpfir)

Hi, does anyone know if the soundtrack to this (my favorite) film is available anywhere? All I can find is some youtube footage and a fan site with 30second samples. Any help much appreciated.

the music is on the lp Music From Great Australian Films (DRG Label). Maybe you can locate a copy on Ebay.

Thanks, but it's the title theme and Romanian panpipe music by Gheorghe Azmpfir that I'm after. They're not on that lp sadly.

For a minute there I was thinking... "Bad Day At Black Rock". Zamfir playing pan pipes on the score to the old Spencer Tracy film?

Yeah there is 1 album that I know of (Gheorge Zamfir) A Theme From Picnic At Hanging Rock which unsurprisingly contains 'theme from' as well as 'Miranda's Theme' - my version is on vinyl (Epic: EPC 81780) but I suspect that these 2 tracks are easily obtainable on one of the many 'Best Of Zamfir's - the other Picnic track I have is on a Bruce Smeaton 'Best Of' bought incidentally when I lived in Melbourne - none of the recordings are the originals - Picnic At Hanging Rock became a favourite film of mine and my then Aussie g-friend - we climbed up the 'Rock' and at the top...well that's between us, the rock and a group of school children on a field trip who stumbled upon us (big red face!!)

Look at http://wald.heim.at/redwood/510196/soundtracks/index_soundtracks.html . At the bottom of the page you will find a review of an European Zamfir CD which includes the recordings made for the Picnic movie.

Response to Picnic At Hanging Rock

PaHR is also a favourite film of mine. Unfortunately, partly due to some legal wrangling, no official soundtrack has ever been released, and won't be in the future. On occasion, you will find some of Gheorghe Zamfir's songs on compilation albums, but that is about it. I managed to get a bootleg copy of all the film's music from eBay, and that is the best we can hope for as fans.

I made a find:

Rumanian Doina (Banat) Sus pe culmea dealului by Ulrich Herkenhoff

This track is almost identitical to the theme from PaHR if not the actual track they could have
used. You can download off Amazon.
