Placing the composers in order in this database

As I just noticed the latest occurrence of this matter I'd like to point at it in this public topic.

When there are 2 (or more) composers for the same film, why are they being placed in the alphabetical order ? It's surely handy to have some system but this often result as for example John Barry being the primary composer for Dr. No (while his contribution was merely arranging of one track). Most recently it happened today with Cross Creek. The late Leonard Rosenman composed the score but Lionel Newman, who only conducted it, is placed earlier just because his name comes first alphabetically.

I like to sort my collection by composer here because that's also how I sort my CDs and although I have to do a lot to make it complete here I still often use it to check what I myself have. I will surely never expect to find Cross Creek under 'N'.

Your thoughts ?

Hello Dorian,

I do wish that when there is more than one composer on any given score that the database would list them in order of who did the most work on the score. I also wish when there are films that have more than one composer and more than one version of the score depending on what country the film was released in, They would list which release has which composer. For example, the film "Jack the Ripper" has composers listed as Stanley Black (European version) and Pete Rugolo , Jimmy McHugh for the (USA version). It does'nt list which Lp is Black's version and which is the Rugolo/McHugh version?

RCA Camden CAL 590 RCA LSP 2199 is the Ruggolo McHugh recording of "Jack The Ripper.

RCA Camden 590 is the Stanley Black recording with dialogue from the film and narration.

This is a guess but I don't think the Stanley Black recording is in fact a score to the european release. Probably music composed specifically for the dialogue recording.

Hello,

workingwithknives: Thanks for your response to my "ripper" question. I thought that the lp by Stanley Black would be a film score album because on the Chandos compilation cd called "The Film Music of Stanley Black" there are three tracks listed as being from the ripper movie. I don't get it?
