What scores are you listening to right now? (+ comments)
Hello,
The cds in my changer today are: (sort of a Sarde fest)
"Tess"
"Ghost Story"
"Fort Saganne"
"La Fille De D'Artagnan"
"Lord of the Flies"
"Le Bossu"
I have a few other Philippe Sarde cds, What are some you would recommend?
Whats on your play list today?
Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.

Hi David,
I just received "Lucky You" by Christopher Young and this one is bound to occupy my player
for the next days!
As for Philippe Sarde's scores, I'd recommend you Les Choses de la Vie, César et Rosalie, Lieu
du Crime and Ennemis Intimes.
Cheerz,
David

I think coma already named the "biggest hits". I'd just add MORT D'UN POURRI.
Beware, LES CHOSES DE LA VIE and CÉSAR ET ROSALIE can be real tear-jerkers. Perhaps the most beautiful ones there are.

As for my own novelties, I'll just name those I liked most:
THE STUNT MAN / AN UNMARRIED WOMAN (Frontiere/Conti) - very nice and listenable CD :-)
DIE KIRSCHENKÖNIGIN (THE CHERRY QUEEN)(Annette Focks) - beautiful mini series (2004) score, very melodic, perhaps Focks' best work.
THE BIONIC WOMAN (Joe Harnell) - very pleasant listen as well, the "bonus" sound effects could have been left off the CD though ;-)
DIE ZEIT, DIE MAN LEBEN NENNT (Wolfram de Marco) - stands surprisingly well on its own feet, even when separated from the picture (2008 TV movie).
FLUCHT OHNE ENDE/RADETZKYMARSCH (Rolf Wilhelm) - Solid TV scores from the 1960s to 1980s, in a typical Rolf Wilhelm classical mould.
And the jewel among my latest purchases:
KLUTE/ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN (Small/Shire) - Sounds contradictory, but COOL and WARM never went together this well! Five stars. :-)

Hi
Independence day - a strong score.
Temple of doom complete - one of my williams favorites.
The polar express - First 15 minuts is just super.
Secret of the lost legend - sort of background listning.
kaminsky, June 21, 2008; 4:30 PM

Philip Sainton's "Moby Dick" - sheer genius!

Hi,
Mainly Movie Score Medias releases as I just received an order with their scores.
"The Christmas Miracle Of Jonathan Toomey" - Guy Farley - Absolutely enchanting, beautiful
melodies
"The Abandoned" - Alfons Conde - Dark and yet powerful score, truly appealing
"Like Minds" - Very ecclectic and mysterious themes
"The Legend Of Butch and Sundance" - Basil Poledouris - Not his best score but ahead many
others and pretty moving considering it was his last.
and my favourite "Jellysmoke/Unknown Soldier"- Peter Calandra- 2 superb scores with very
generous jazzy themes and great feeling youn can hear in a row and can easily be compared
to people like Dave Grusin ...
I know that sounds like an ad for one and only company but these are the score I received
and it's a pleasure to hear them these past two days !
Have a nice week end,

Together with strong coffee, I have this one on repeat to sort of aid my wake up call. Great score by a very talented Roy Budd. I like this composer's work very much. I don't think there is anything he had composed that is on cd that I do not like.
Ciao...

Just listening to Leslie Zadors "unvarnished chat" with Benny Herrmann. It´s a pleasure to hear Herrmann live.
- "The last run" by Goldsmith: not one of my favourite Goldis, but nice to listen
- "Anne of the Indies", Excellent Waxman (Top Varese release)
- "High Noon", Tiomkin´s (and SAE´s) masterpiece
I recommend Sarde´s Pirates (Varese expanded) and The bear.
Kind regards
Peter

The Best Of John Barry (Polydor 849 095-2)
A collection of "classic" tracks from the early 70s by The Master.
SUPERB!
I bought the CD in May91 but had had all of these tracks on LP for a number of years.

The "Wat zien ik..?" score by Julius Steffaro: wicked seventies comedy stuff from the
lowlands.
The "Klute" score together with "All the presendent's men" is a favourite too here lately.

Her royal highness will soon be making her grand entrance through the gates of my castle...
serifiot, June 24, 2008; 8:35 PM

Hi David,
Philippe Sarde is a composer I have been following since the mid-seventies of the last
century. I know most of his work, but taste differs from collector to collector I noticed. But
here is what I like most by Sarde;
Almost all of the Claude Sautet scores, and the compilations are great. Get the 'Ecoutez le
Cinema' compilation of Sautet, and I can also recommend those of Bertrand Tavernier, Pierre
Granier-Deferre, Yves Boisset and perhaps Jacques Rouffio (if you don't already have them).
Les Egares uses most of the same music as l'Adolescente and is a great CD. Pour Sacha is
another one I like a lot as well as Les Soeurs Fachees. Beau-Pere is another highlight, very
tongue-in-cheek and dark-humoured.

The last 5 score I listened to were:
Taken (Laura Karpman)
Domestic Disturbance (Mark Mancina)
Godzilla (David Arnold)
The Weather Man (Hans Zimmer)
Monsters Inc (Randy Newman)

Frantic - Morricone
Blade Runner - Vangelis
Get Carter- Roy Budd

Dead Calm- Graeme Revell
