John Williams THE COWBOYS on LP
Wondering if anyone who has John Williams The Cowboys RC-31 LP in their collection can comment on the sound quality? I notice it is listed here as a 'Promo'.
Any info appreciated!!

Hi bellfoosh...
I have the John Williams LP release of THE COWBOYS in my collection. I have to admit that
it has been quite a few years since I have spun that treasured piece of vinyl but I can attest
to the sound quality being very good. If you have a chance to pick up a copy and you like the
deep rich sound of LP tracks GO FOR IT!!!
For years before Varese Sarabande released THE COWBOYS on CD, my vinyl copy got a lot of
use and even after purchasing the CD version, I noticed that the sound quality of the LP
stood up quite well to the Varese version.
DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!! : )
Good luck

I have a scan of the cover on my blog...

Scrool all the way to the bottom then up 21 rows and you'll see it. The "Coogan's Bluff LP contains a track from "The Coyboys" as well.

Thanks for the responses!!
I am spinning this disc right now and the quality, I would say, beats the CD. Nice, full, lush, rich and spatial all the way through. Man do I love vinyl!!
Vinyl vs CD actually makes me think of Ray Harryhausen's best work and how it still looks better than most CGI put out these days - especially in the lighting department. Ahh, the progress(read: decline) of mankind...
I also wanted to mention, looks like there are two releases on vinyl: The RC-31 stereo release with a gritty textured, darker tan color cover (the color of a paper grocey bag) and another release with a smoother finish and more of an off-white cover(as pictured on the above website) which I believe is a Mexico release, if I'm not mistaken. Mine is the darker tan color and sounds FANTASTIC!!
I noticed the CD is now OOP and going for upwards of $49.00 in some markets. I hope this means there is an expanded re-mastered release coming soon, not that I don't already have an expanded CD 'version' of this score(27 tracks/61:22 minutes compared to the 17 track/32 minute 1995 Varese Sarabande release).
Wil Anderson- "Had my back broke once and my hip twice, and on my worst day I could beat the h*ll outta you."
Thanks again!!
