I'm trying to find out what instruments were used on Dirty Harry
I love this soundtrack by Dirty Harry and I really want to know what musicians were on the soundtrack and what instruments were used on what tracks. I write music myself and would love to recreate the atmosphere of this soundtrack somehow.
Many thanks all!

Unfortunately those details are not included in the liner notes for Aleph's release. In the late 90's The James Taylor Quartet covered the main title and employed Organ, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Percussion, Sax, Trumpets and Tablas. Hope this helps

Thanks for that guys...I really love that spine chilling eerie sound and want to try to recreate
it...I run a studio and use Apple Logic Pro 8 and have several software instruments, so I have a
fairly good chance of simulating it...

I want to "simulate" it as I would love to do a cover version as an ode to his work, and also I
want to discover the production methods as I really love the analogue sound, and in this world
of digital only production, to have a hands on feel is great, but if I can't do that, then the best I
can do is simulate it.
I get the impression you are disgruntled by me wanting to simulate it?

TENOR SAXOPHONE - Plas Johnson
GUITAR - Howard Roberts, Dennis Budimir (who also did some great work on Bill Conti's "Blood In, Blood Out")
DOUBLE BASS (ACOUSTIC) - Carol Kaye, Ray Brown, Max Bennett, Paul Jackson
DRUMS: Larry Bunker, John Guerin
OTHER PERCUSSION: Emil Richards
Thanks go to Dennis Meeker.

Plas Johnson... The saxophonist on the original version of "The Pink Panther" theme and hundreds of other recordings over the years including "Les Baxter's Jungle Jazz", "Gris-Gris" (Doctor John and the Night Trippers).
Carol Kaye, bassist on hundreds of recordings. Has her own website. Was strongly in favor of George Bush 8 years ago and used her website to attack those who would oppose the Republican agenda. I personally do not like the bitch.
Emil Richards, another veteran of hundreds of film scores and recordings. Did a lot of work with Elmer Bernstein, Henry Mancini and just about everyone else.
The schmuck who thinks he can emulate their sound with chitzy computer toys would do best by tossing the notion in a water bucket and forgetting about it.

Relax knives, some guys play instruments and some pretend to doing music. Still remember
The Monkees? ;) Anyway, didn't we all start with a three-note plastic trumpet and a tin
drum?
