ROSEMARY'S BABY ~ Harkit CD reissue, July 2008
Hey gang,
I'm happy to report that the new Harkit CD reissue of ROSEMARY'S BABY (currently featured on the main page of this very website) actually has reordered and corrected track titles, after all previous CD issues (including Harkit's 2005 release) kept repeating the same mixed-up track listing over and over again. This new "revised edition" has the same catalog number as the previous Harkit release, and also shows a copyright date of 2005 on the back insert, so it seems that the only way to tell them apart is by the corrected track listing.

I say .....big deal. I have the Polonia issue which also contains Komeda's "Fearless Vampire Killers". I looked at the track listing for the Harkit release....and I still say "big deal" because some of the tracks aren't even from the original recordings done in the 60's....who'd want that? The only real addition are two rehearsal tracks with Komeda, and that's not worth it enough to make me buy it all over again. The Polonia release works perfectly for me.

Yep, FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS is another cool Komeda score. It's nice to have the corrected track listing on this new reissue, that's all. No one really cares whether you buy it or not, but thanks for your input.
P.S. The only track on this CD that wasn't recorded in the 60s is the live rendition of the Main Title, from 1989 (track 23), and it's actually pretty awesome. Much more enjoyable than I'd expected, anyways...funky jazz fusion vibe that really turns the theme inside out. And Komeda's solo piano rehearsals of the main theme (tracks 24 & 25) are heartwrenchingly beautiful.

I've added the track listing of this new release into the database. See the Harkit "revised edition" on this page:

Thanks for the information Josh!
Anyway, after the previous polish releases (I know three different CDs so far) offered the same wrong track list, I think Harkit could have corrected it when releasing their 2005 ROSEMARY'S BABY. Now I have two of the polish releases plus the first Harkit pressing. So I don't think I will purchase this corrected new pressing. I suppose I'll print the back inlay of the CD corrected by myself with the information you've submitted. Definetively, the kids on Harkit Records should be more careful with their releases... Something similar happened to their release of Komeda's CUL-DE-SAC: I purchased it through Buysoundtrax and I received it with the back inlay being a color xeroxed copy (I suppose it had some kind of correction) and a sticker of the bar code stack on it. When I contacted Buysoundtrax about the subject, they told me that Harkit had provided all the CUL-DE-SAC CDs like that.
I'm afraid that now will be the turn of correcting the THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS track list. If I don't remember bad, that track list was also a little confusing...
I hope that someone (FSM, Intrada) will release someday that score properly using the original masters from the MGM vaults.
Anyway, it's a real pleasure to see these great scores being the object of so much attention over the years.
Kindest regards,
Angel

Can you explain what makes the 2 minute time difference?

A great score, "Rosemary's Baby".
I remember years ago (must have been around 1970), my father and I were at a discount store. Back then, cutout vinyl was sold at a reduced price. Sometimes 3 recordings for 99 cents.
The old man bought about 15 sealed vinyl copies of "Rosemary's Baby" on Dot records for 10 cents each and gave them out as Christmas gifts. Everyone in the family had a copy of the soundtrack.
I was about nine years old at the time. The music scared me. I took a sewing needle and scratched my name across the grooves. Luckily, there were several more around. To this very day both my brother and I have copies.
Officially, "Rosemary's Baby" is the first film score I listened to.

What an amazing story, Knives!
It was a really strange way to get into soundtracks... :-)

Yeah, great story, WWK. What a cool XMas gift!
Hey Urs, I'm not sure what's up with the time difference, and haven't had the time to analyze the different track listings to figure it out. Maybe one of our resident ROSEMARY'S BABY experts will chime in and enlighten us.

Why am I receiving eight identical e-mail notifications for each and every response to this thread? Does this happen to everyone else too?
American.Nightmare, August 4, 2008; 2:04 AM

What about the Tsunami release?
And what is this about some of the music tracks not being from the original recordings?
I don't want to miss any music. I'm confused with all the available releases and their various track listings and I'm getting cross-eyed here trying to figure what's what. I have the second edition Polonia release and the Tsunami one. Harkit's website reads that their latest re-release is an expanded release. What is expanded about it? Harkit went from 24 tracks to 25. One track? Which one?
''Still deeply disturbing after almost 40 years, Roman Polanski's 1968 shocker starred Mia Farrow as a meek housewife caught up in a tale of New York and modern-day witchcraft. Krzysztof Komeda's haunting score is here for the first time in an expanded version with a remarkable 'vocalese' version by Polish songstress Urszula Dudziak with Walk Away and rare rehearsal tracks by the composer. A sensational fully illustrated booklet with insightful notes in both English and Polish.''
In any case, I don't know if I will be listening to new music from the previous Harkit release besides this added bonus track whatever that may be and from the other two releases I already have but I'm contemplating in getting this new Harkit re-release as well. Should I or should I not?
Still thinking...
BTW, I would like to see ''Look What Happened To Rosemary's Baby?'' by Charles Bernstein released. It sort of completes the Rosemary saga I guess. :- )

Regarding the Fearless Vampire Killers tracks, here's a thread from five years ago where I posted the corrected listings....I went through the Polonia CD and compared the music to what I had on video (although I'm a big fan of the score), and came up with a corrected listing:

American Nightmare - The problem with the multiple email notifications should only affect the thread starter. I have experienced the same problem with my own questions before, and my guess is that EACH time someone edits an existing reply, you get a new email notification. Just match two of the notifications and check if they are 100% identical.
Maybe you/we should email Ton about it, although I'm sure he knows of this bug.
I will not edit this reply, so if you receive an email notification about this reply, my "theory" (see above) is probably correct.

Yep, Urs, I received 8 identical e-mails with your reply. Must be a bug as you said.

The Tsumami release coupled with "Jack The Ripper"(Pete Rugolo), is a big time mismatch if you ask me.
victoravalentine, August 4, 2008; 1:12 PM

Erwin, the webmaster, is on a well deserved holiday now, but as soon as he is back he will try to solve the problem of the identical e-mail notifications.
Till then, please be patient ;-)

Regarding Vampire Killers.
According to Lukas Kendall from FSM, MGM didn´t have the master tapes for this score, it seems the incomplete version from Harkit, Polonia etc, is all what survived.
Rosemary´s Baby
As far as I know the LP and film recordings are different. The LP seems a re-recording done for the release.
