The 'James Bond Theme' 'mission like' genre?
Hi guys,
i am trying to find soundtracks somewhat similar to the James Bond Theme by John Barry, but i'm having difficulties trying to track these songs down.
I have done a lot of research, but have only found a few songs that come near these kind of tracks.
i am looking for “mission like” songs, the kind you hear in detective, secret agent, and sometimes super hero movies (though somewhat seldom in this day and age.) Very upbeat and rhythmic, often with features of bongos and electric guitar, but never forgetting a heavy focus on some slightly hectic saxophone and piano work. A few i came across so far are:
Lalo Schifrin – Theme From Mission Impossible
Robert Rodriguez - The planet terror theme song
James Taylor - Starsky and Hutch theme song
Michael Giacchions - The Incredibles theme song
Rob Dougan - Chateau (from ‘the matrix reloaded’)
As far as google goes, some people say the name for this type of music is big band. I've looked that up, but thats not exactly the same. Big band music is more centered on jazz and it doesn’t have that upbeat groovy tempo off the songs listed above.
If anybody knows more songs of this kind or has any idea what the genre of this kind of music is called like, I would be very very gratefull.
hope someone can help me out
thanks in advance!
regards
Joey veray

Google the words, "crime jazz" and you'll find some stuff.

Howard Shore - The Score Theme
Christophe Beck - The Sentinel Theme
David Arnold - Shaft (2000) Theme
Steve Jablonsky - Transformers (Autobots)

BEAT GIRL by John Barry was a fore-runner to the JB Theme
also try
Ron Grainer's tv themes for THE PRISONER and MAN IN A SUITCASE
Jerry Goldsmith's MAN FROM UNCLE - especially the versions he conducted plus Goldsmith's OUR MAN FLINT

And what about Laurie Anderson's theme for The Professionals / CI-5? And Lalo Schifrin's
Mannix?

(coma) Don't you mean Laurie Johnson? I like some of Laurie Anderson's stuff as well as Laurie Johnson.
