Question

Frances SACD John Barry - is it hybrid?

Hi all, on SAE they list Frances by John Barry in SuperAudioCD-format as hybrid. However, on
Amazon it is sold as 'Please Note: Requires SACD-compatible hardware'. The thing is, I have an
ordinary CD-player (Sony CDP-XE370). Will it play on my player, or do I need a newer type of
player that is suitable for both formats? I have no experience with the SACD format. Any helpful
comments welcome.

Hello Couvee.
I have several SACD (FRANCES is one of them) and they go perfectly in my normal CD player. I think you don't need nothing special for playing the SACDs.

Greetings,
Angel

Hybrid means that it's suitable for both kind of players. I have the CD and it plays perfectly fine
on my normal device.

Thanks guys. Yeah, the way I understand it is that there are 3 types of SACD's (basically dual-
layer DVD-type discs) and the 'hybrid'-type has additional 'ordinary' CD information that can be
read by ordinary players but (of course) without the extra sound quality or surround sound. It's
reassuring that this particular title (Frances) is actually Hybrid.

Another question, will it import in iTunes? I read certain remarks on the internet of people
having trouble importing SACD's (anti-copy protection?) and some that had no trouble playing it
on the computer.

I just gave it a try on my Mac and it was imported to iTunes without any problem.

Thanks. I already ordered 'Frances', but it's convenient to know that it will import on a Mac
(as I own one myself). I hardly listen to my original CD's these days. I got used to my iPod
switching between playlists and omitting undesired tracks. However, I treasure my original
CD's and would never part from them. Sometimes I get the feeling that people here think
that when you have an iPod you are;
a. listening to crap-quality sound
b. got your music in illegal ways
c. or pay for crap-files on iTunes without the possibility of a back up in case your files are lost
Well, I can't tell the difference in soundquality between the original CD and the iPod, I only
buy original CD's and keep them and I have never ordered anything from iTunes because I
would miss the material product, booklets and the back-up in case my soundfiles would be
lost or damaged for whatever reason.

Completely seconded!
