I like this guys music. He was a member of "Tangerine Dream" during the scoring of "Shy People" and "Near Dark".

Oh yes, i totally agree...
PLUS he was a member of Lustmord (with Brian Williams) and had his own "dark ambient" project called Coma Virus (check out "Hidden", Side Effects DFX27). I wasn't particularily fond of his scores à la Shoot'em up, but then again liked Vacancy (also containing a nice Lustmord remix).

I'm thinking Paul Haslinger could have done a good job with the George Romero film "Land Of The Dead".
The recordings you mentioned sound great. I also enjoy the Haslinger recording "Score", from around ten years ago. The "Tangerine Dream" recording,"Melrose" is also worth listening to.

Hm,
You're right with "Land", that might have been fitting perfectly. The actual score by Klimek / Heil was a letdown. A few snippets were good, but in general this score represents perfectly what I dislike about many horror scores today - representing onscreen mayhem with acoustic mayhem is overkill. Imho, this is why the previous Dead entries (except Night, which of course was a different approach) worked so well. When things went wild, Goblin/Harrison thumped away with with not-too-dense rhythms that let the picture breathe meanwhile. But that approach to scoring is long gone, unfortunately...
I never knew about "Score", thanks for the hint, I will check it out. It's funny you mention "Melrose" by TD, because that was the last recording of TD i bought when it came out, and was the first one i loathed. The only post-Franke record i love is "Miracle Mile", where Haslinger did a great job "replacing" Franke, I think. Of course, "Near Dark" is a milestone for me, but that was mainly Franke's work. "Shy People" has great tracks on it, even if some of it strongly brings memories of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" to mind ;-)

"Tangerine Dream" hit a low point with "Goblin's Club" and rebounded a bit with "Architecture In Motion"...

I'd say to this day, "Sorcerer" is the absolute best as far as TD scores go. The film got a bad rap and did poorly at the theatres when it was released around the same time as "Star Wars".
As far as I'm concerned, "Sorcerer" is one of the best films of 1977.

Yup, Sorcerer was/is a mighty fine movie. I've owned the soundtrack twice and each time failed to enjoy it . The Theif soundtrack on the other hand is a particular favourite of mine. I suspect if I ever catch Sorcerer again I'll kick myself for not hanging onto the soundtrack.
