Hello,

My cd changer has the following:

1. "Flowers in the Attic" - Christopher Young (1987) - I don't own many Christopher Young scores, But this is my favorite.

2. "Quest for Fire" - Philippe Sarde (1981) - Just bought this cd. Great score and Fits the film perfect.

3. "Bandolero!" - Jerry Goldsmith (1968) - I love western scores from the 60's. Another solid Goldsmith score.

4. "Sahara" - Ennio Morricone (1983) - Just Bought this cd. Very good score from a painful to watch film.

5. "Sundown" - Richard Stone (1989) - Fun score melting the horror and western film score genre together.

6. "Yor, The Hunter from the Future" - John Scott (1982) Just bought this cd as well. Another example of pleasure and pain. wonderful on the ears, torture on the eyes.

1. 'It came from outer space/The Mole People/Them!' - Stein, Gertz, Mancini, Kaper,
Roemheld - Great re-recording of classic sci-fi scores on CD called 'Monstrous Movie Music'. I
love the films and from a musical point of view 'It came from outer space' is my favorite.
Liner notes are very informative and extensive. Bonus tracks with versions of the music
without theremin overdubs, although I prefer them with the eerie sounds that lends the
music it's campy charm. But make no mistake, these aren't cheap rubbish films but very well
made classics and the re-recordings sound close to the originals.

2. Doctor Zhivago - Eduard Artemiev - Not the Jarre score, but a Russian re-make from 2006.
Not that easy to find CD on Megaliner (russian) label, but great score, even with occasional
narration (on 3 tracks only, with background music). It's much closer to the soul of Russia
than the Jarre/Lara's Theme-score. Beautiful melodies, piano, violin, poetic, occasionally
bombastic like a russian landscape (or my imagination of it). Outstanding. I would love to see
the film. Booklet in russian only.

3. Shogun - Maurice Jarre - I always loved this score and had it on LP. I always wanted this
on CD and it was only recently that I found it on a b**t coupled with Tai-Pan. I was very
excited that Intrada released it re-mastered and it sounds incredible, a big improvement from
what I had. I thought the LP was well produced, so I don't care that much about the lack of
extra music. One of my favorite CD's.

4. The White Countess - Richard Robbins - Only released in Japan, I had a bit trouble finding
this but was fortunate to get it at a normal price from eBay. Money well spend. I have most
scores by Robbins, but this is one of his better efforts.

5. King Kong - John Barry - Another one that I had on LP and grew up with, John Barry being
one of the first film composers I bought records of. I love the FSM Silver Age release with the
better soundquality (compared to my LP). A very expensive film at the time, but with more
charm than the stupid and unnessesary remake by Peter Jackson, not in the last place
because of Barry's very effective score. The cue where Kong first appears to take his offer
(Lange) has such a great build-up thanks to Barry's driving music. Also the mysterious side of
the island is accentuated in the score that at heart is romantic.

6. Playing by Heart - John Barry - I only bought this 1999 score recently, being put-off that it
was a Jazz album. I decided to give it a try and although I'm not a Jazz fan this album is
great. I really love it and the cue 'Remebering Chet' is one of my favorites with a haunting
melody. Very good for the late evening. Smooth Barry a bit in the mood of Eternal
Echoes/Beyondness of things.

THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION by George Antheil. Lovely score conducted by Ernest Gold with a buoyant Spanish feeling and flamenco rhythms. Monaural but acceptable sound quality.

Quick answer:

"Songs of the Sea: The Regatta Suite" by Jeff Rona. Brilliant piece of music with an orchestration that nods to classic Williams and Goldsmith. Check this one out! Available at iTunes.

Lately I've been on a Disney kick. I've been getting every album I can find with music from the park, like on-ride music, background stuff, you name it. I just got a 10-disc compilation from Disneyland Paris and I have a 6-disc set from Disneyland (LA). There's some great stuff there, even though a lot of it is cheesy by today's standards. The Sherman brothers contributed a lot of the music, but even more recent additions from Michael Giacchino and John Williams are on there too.

I can listen to the ride-through music from "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "The Haunted Mansion" all day. Great stuff!

"Rediscovering Lost Scores Volume Two" - Wendy Carlos (2005) - Great as always with typical Carlos sounds.

Right now I'm listening to "The John Dunbar Theme" from the two track promo disc of "Dancing With Wolves".

I'm guessing it was used to promote the film and perhaps played in the lobby of theatres. Picked it up at a second hand shop for two dollars several weeks ago. The alternate cover from the commercial CD looks pretty good.

Sounds great! It has a cool, peaceful sound about it.

RUNAWAY (Deluxe Edition) ~ Jerry Goldsmith

This one doesn't seem to get enough love. It's at turns melodic, menacing, propulsive, hypnotic, exciting, lyrical, abrasive, other-worldly, and all together wonderful. One of my favorites from the maestro.

"Runaway" is great! I have the vinyl pressing.

It was a real treat to hear an electronic score from Jerry Goldsmith. Gets plenty of love from me. I think I gave it a hug once or twice.

There's a set of 3 CD's of electronic music composed by Perry Botkin I've been thinking about buying.

The Rock (Original Soundtrack) - I LOVE this soundtrack and it comes from one of my favourite movies all time (Part of the reason why I loved this movie from the start was the music).
