Hello,

2. "Missing in Action 2:The Beginning" (1985) - Brian May - Very good, I don't own many Brian May scores and I never saw this movie, So I was Pleasantly surprised. ****
3. "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" (1980) - Miklos Rozsa - Solid score late in his career. ****
4. "3:10 to Yuma" (1957) - George Duning - Quality 50's western score. ****
5. "Moll Flanders" (1996) - Mark Mancina - Of the few I own, this is my favorite Mark Mancina score. ****
6. "Shogun" (1980) - Maurice Jarre - Another great release by Intrada. Maurice Jarre what a talent. ****1/2
"The Boys from Brazil" just arrived today, That will be next. Intrada keep up the outstanding job, Varese WAKE UP!

Hello David,
i think also Varese is doing a good job, perhaps not as spectacular as Intrada does actually, but releases as Pony soldier or Anna Lucasta are outstanding too.
1. Cassandra crossing (Jerry Goldsmith), marvelous action cues ****
2. Boy on a dolphin (Friedhofer), great release of a much underrated composer*****
3. Hoosiers (Jerry Goldsmith), doesn´t say much too me-prefer Rudy **1/2
4. Un homme et une femme (Francis Lai), lyrical, poetical music to one of my favourite films ****
5. Best of adventure, fabulous compilation with 20 minutes of Goonies *****
Kind regards

I am listening to the Tadlow 3CD set of El Cid, Miklos Rozsa *****
I usualy don´t give much about re-recordings, but this one is great.
-Blazing Saddles, John Morris **** It finaly came out.
-MGM's treasury Box (FSM) ***** I prefer the complete scores by Ennio Morricone; The Hills Run Red and Hornet's Nest. Also the other scores are good. FSM did a great job on it. It sold out within a few days.
And thanks to Chris Couvee for his review on the Artemiev CD Dr. Zhivago in the previous ";What are you listening now". It is indeed a good score I bought it on Ebay for $5 in Moscow. The score is still not on the database. ( I entered it weeks a go)
I am looking forward to the Boys From Brasil on Intrada.

1. The Kentuckian / Williamsburg (Herrmann - Stromberg conducting Moscow symphony
Orchestra) - This Tribute CD is ab-fab. I can't praise it enough. Great performance, stunning
sound quality, excellent conducting and great music. I bought the Great Americana Film
Scores LP back in the 70-s, it had a suite of 'The Kentuckian' of about 20 minutes and it was
a favorite of mine for years. I bought it on the Preamble CD when that came out and now,
finally I can hear the whole score. I keep putting it in my CD player. It's as good, if not better,
as the Fred Steiner rendition and a very enjoyable listening experience. And because you
can't get enough of music like this they also added the very pleasant score for 'Williamsburg -
the story of a patriot'. I never heard any of that score before and it's very good too. 5 stars
overall!
2. Fahrenheit 451 (Herrmann) - Another Tribute CD by Stromberg that I keep playing. One of
my favorite all time scores and the last great score that Herrmann wrote. Enjoyable from
start to finish, another 5 stars.
3. Mysterious Island (Herrmann) - Again a Tribute CD. I had this in my collection from when
it was released but didn't have time to listen to it that much. I always thought that the
Harryhausen scores by Herrmann were less interesting than most of his other works. I didn't
like the 'mysterious film music' suites that he recorded in the early 70-s, too much 'giant
crab'/'giant chick'-attack music. Probably effective for the movie but not that interesting to
listen to without the puppetery going on. I still like this score less than the previous
mentioned, but I must say Herrmann didn't do his music justice by making the short suites.
This complete recording has it's great moments and on repeated listenings it grows on you. 4
stars.
4. Silencio Roto (Pascal Gaigne) - Very good score by Gaigne, beautiful theme and subtle
music. Another 5 stars.
5. Lawrence of Arabia (Jarre) - The Tony Bremner re-recording. I know some people hate this
recording compared to the original but I think it's not so bad. The original recording doesn't
sound very well, somehow the original recording deteriorated over the years and you can
notice it. This recording is clearer from that point of view, even though the volume appears
lower than normal. I always have to turn up the volume when I play this. The extra music is
a bonus too. Well worth having in my opinion, unless you only care for original soundtracks. 4
stars.

Hello,
Thanks to all of you who answered my post.
To Peter: I agree with you that both the Alex North and Elmer Bernstein scores that were released by Varese are the best of the last club releases. But, I think in the last year or two they have just gone down in the quality of scores they have offered. I just can't understand why Intrada is able to release so many more outstanding scores than Varese.
To Couvee: I'm glad to hear you like the re-recording release of ";The Kentuckian", I have been thinking of purchasing that cd and wanted to hear what others thought of it first.
Best Regards,
David Phoenix, AZ.

At the moment i'm working through the 4cd box of "Rififi au Ciné". French police movie
themes since the 1950.
It's tough and basically an overload of nearly 120 tracks of french cinema history. Now i
need to watch those movies.
I recently bought "Midnight Cowboy" (at last). Great score. Loved this one track by
Elephant's Memory best.
Visited Iceland some weeks ago and bought 2 scores: Jóhann Jóhannsson's "Dis" and
Slowblow's Nói Albinói score. Obscure stuff.

In the changer at the moment:
Anna Lucasta (outstanding jazzy Elmer Bernstein score)
The Pony Soldier (An Alex North western or is it a northern since Tyrone Power plays a Mountie?)
Vamp (dynamite synth score)
The Matrix expanded (A classic score with more music)
up after that North and South book 2 and a whole stack of cds from LLL's "Going nuts" sale.
