Need Questions Answered!

Hi,
AHI Records have re-released some of my favourite soundtracks by legendary composer
John Carpenter and I want to find out whether these are worth purchasing!
I have the originals on cd including They Live but would like to find out a few things.
If anyone has these new recordings please do let me know!
Cheers

Hi Tonye,

Believe me, they are definitely worth the purchase. Nice packaging, liner notes about film and score and....:

- Halloween III: 13 bonus tracks (making the CD almost twice as long as the Varèse one)

- They Live: 18 bonus tracks (that are longer than the original CD)

- Prince Of Darkness: What can I say there? The original album PLUS about 85 minutes of bonus tracks in a 2 CD package.

Also, all of these have been remastered and have never sounded as good.

A no-brainer.

Let's hope Big Trouble is next!

Best,
Burnie

I can only agree - if you're fond of these scores, buy them now before they become OOP again. You will not be disappointed!

I think Big Trouble will follow soon, maybe even Christine and Halloween II.

Hm yes,

I am really hoping for Big Trouble - there's *a lot* of music missing on both available releases!

Christine was complete when released by Varèse, and can still be found for regular prices - so it would only be a question of "remastering". But still, I'd go for it.

Halloween II was also quite complete (a few stingers/drones here and there are about all that's left unreleased), but seems to be quite rare these days, so that might be a possibility...

I still have a small hope that one day the original score for "The Fog" might be released in a complete form by someone. Surely not AHI, as Howarth had no doing in this score. The Silva Screen CD was a medium-successful expansion. It added a few things, but lots of - imho - important themes/tracks were still left out.

Best,
Burnie

in response to the last post:

I have both the LP and the promo CD of "Big Trouble" and I agree that they are absolutely incomplete. Since Howarth produced and released this promo himself, I feel pretty confident that he'll be able to release it under AHI as well.

Howarth did the album stereo remix for "The Fog", but besides that he was not involved. And with the Silva release out there, I don't think a new remaster will see the light of day very soon.
