Final word on Quantum
OK I've listened to this score several times now and i have to say that it a'int that bad. The general concensus seems to be that Arnold has shot his bolt and it's time for him to go. But i think some people are being a bit harsh. I must agree that by the time he had done "Die another day" his mish mash of modern percussion and barry style licks were in danger of becoming trite, but his turnabout on "Casino Royale" was a vast improvement. It actually began to feel like an old style Bond score. He has continued in this vein for quantum. Sure, the percussion is pumped up a bit in the opening cues but the so called saggy centre of the score, the suspense cues remind me a lot of the type of underscore Barry used in Thunderball, especially the Shrublands sequence. This is particulatly evident in tracks 9 and 10. The mysterious motif used seems to indicate the menace of Quantum(SPECTRE). The standout track of course is track 7 a whirlwind chase of massive proportions that is fast becoming one of my favourite bond tracks. No, I think Arnold is really trying hard to capture the musical heritage of this modern Bond as the producers are also trying to capture the spirit of the past. Craig even does a throwaway Thunderball-like reference at one point. The song is a different matter. No disrespect to our crooning Duo but a single more deeper and defined voice might have given some creedence instead of the caterwauling on display. Anyone agree or disagree on score or song?

While I cannot give an evaluation of my own yet (the disc hasn't arrived in my mailbox yet), I would like to congratulate you for your courage. :-)

This score is a very good one and even better, more mature than 'Casino Royale.' Wyh do people always want to hear the SAME?
