The Deep by John Barry
I was wondering if anyone owns the score to The Deep? If so, can you tell me if it's the original score or has it been re-recorded. I am looking at the track listings at the moment and it lists Return To The Sea - 2033 A.D. - A Ballet Based On The Score From The Motion Picture "The Deep" (24:15} The only other tracks gives credit to are songs by Donna Summer and "Disco Calypso" by Alston "Beckett" Cyrus.

yep! Re-recorded. Don't know how much original music there was in the film.

Hi ,
There is a bootleg for this score ( not the CD mentionned on the site ) with 16 themes composed by John Barry . I have also the LP transfer with Return to the sea .

I've watched the (excellent) film several times and I love the album (well, side A at any rate) and whilst the suite (called a ballet) is obviously a re-recording, it does incorporate all of the major dramatic themes.
I was initially disappointed with this approach as I prefer the standard-type OST release; but over time (and I've owned this album for 30 years) I've grown to appreciate Mr. Barry's work on this score more and more. It makes for a truly fabulous listen, especially if played in the dark with just a few small lights (such as from the hi-fi) to accompany you.
A proper CD release featuring this album (well, they could leave the Beckett song off as this does nothing positive for me) combined with the OST would make a wonderful purchase. Highly unlikely, though!
