Knight Rider: Best Of Don Peake Vol 1 - Anomaly?
For anyone who has this CD... Track 2 (at about the two minute mark) is there some serious tape warbling? I just receive this CD and noticed that it is worse on one CD player vs another so I'm thinking my CD is defective.

I'll check my copy tomorrow.
I do know that one track has some tape wispering. Just subpar mastering, that's all. If FilmScoreMonthly.com or Intrada.com has mastered it, it would have sounded better.

THANKS!
The only interesting thing was that it 'damaged' sounded different on different CD players. One was more pronounced than the other.

Playing that track and listening around the two minute mark, I don't recall hearing any tape noise. But then again your sound system could be superior to my car speakers (take that jerkoffs who blare out rap music!)
I'd contact Hitchcock Media abotu a replacement. Seems they have pressed more of Volume 1. And if not, every pressing order has a run off of extra copies that are meant for replacements or lost mail.

"The Hills Have Eyes" CD is a trip. One of the best B movie scores I've listened to.
The cover design could have been a better. As for the way the music is presented... I love it! It's not sequenced in order of the way the music is heard in the film and seems to be exactly as recorded in the studio. It's truly one of a kind.

I have the original version of this CD (the one that was available at Knight Con 2004), which according to the Hitchcock Media web site is the same as the newer release but with different packaging. I just listened to it through a nice pair of headphones, and I don't notice any warpling or defects whatsoever.

Thanks to everyone who posted.
I have ordered volumes 2 & 3 along with the HILLS HAVE EYES and requested a replacement disc for my Volume 1.

I received my replacement copy of Volume 1 (along with THE HILLS HAVE EYES and KNIGHT RIDER Volumes 2 & 3 - Volume 3 is a re-issue of the original "Hi-Tech" Volume 1).
The new Volume 1 is broken down into 56 cues which I prefer to the original 6 cues. The anomaly I heard on track 2 at the 2 minute mark is present on the new version (track 7 at 0:46).
It appears to be a tape warble/damage. This anomaly is slight but since I asked the question and received multiple replies that their copies did not have this anomaly I requested a replacement copy. I want to thank Ron at Hitchcock Media for sending a replacement copy!
For those who didn't hear what I did, I can hear it on both a boom box and a high end Denon player (without headphones). Again it is slight but enough that it caught my attention during a casual listen.
Since Ron was so helpful I have to put a plug in:

If you're a fan of the music of Don Peake's KNIGHT RIDER then these are the discs to get!

Well, I admit I don't have the best ears in town, so I'll just remain blissfully ignorant as far as the tape warbling is concerned. ;-)
I just ordered Volume 2 today, to complete the collection (already had the previously-released version of volume 1, as I mentioned above, plus I have the Hi-Tech Records release). Can't seem to get enough of Don Peake's KNIGHT RIDER scores. So far, the Hi-Tech release (aka Volume 3 from the new batch of releases) features my favorite scores so far...tons of lean and mean 80s style funky dancefloor grooves. I also really dig his take on Herrmann's PSYCHO score in the Halloween episode, which is featured on Volume 1.
And yes, as WWK mentioned above, THE HILLS HAVE EYES is out of this world. It's one of my favorite releases of the year so far (despite the "live session count-offs" on many of the tracks, which I could do without), and I'm totally addicted to track 35.
If anyone gets the new PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS release, please post your thoughts.
Later gents!
Josh
