Les Voleurs (The Thieves) Soundtrack
Pretty sure the movie Les Voleurs has one particular song I would
like to find, I made a note from looking at the music credits:
"Philippe Sarde", but the soundtrack listing shows "Mouvement 1-
11" par Philippe Sarde.
The song I heard was melancholy but had lyrics. I started
listening to some of the cuts, but since they only give you 30
seconds, I gave up because I wasn't hearing any lyrics. I
remember one word repeating many times throughout the song,
but I don't speak French and can't remember what it sounded
like. (Only the dialog in the movie had English subtitles). I don't
know why didn't write down a title. This was a couple
of months ago. I'm pretty sure that this song was played twice
during the movie, including during the final credits.
Anyone know the name of the piece or which of the mouvements
by Sarde this one would have been? Maybe I was wrong about it
being Sarde. Couldn't find on iTunes.
Thanks, Sally

Hi Sally,
I don't know if it's repeated in the movie, but the song playing during the end credits is "Douha
Alia" by Cheb Mami.

Thanks so much David. I just listened to the tune on YouTube and it's definitely the one I liked so much. It was interesting to realize that it was in Arabic. I only knew that it was a song I liked. The information I wrote down was totally wrong since I thought it was written or performed by Phillippe Sarde. I also saw on YouTube that there was a lot of interest in this artist, Cheb Mami, and in the song, mostly French speakers. Maybe Cheb Mami is French Algerian. Of course, since I'm from the U.S. I never get to hear a lot of the music that's popular in Europe and elsewhere since people tend to think we're the center of the Universe here. That's why I'm glad I can get foreign news on cable. There are actually a lot of people here who like to know what's going on with the rest of the world other than Iraq, Afghanistan, and other disasters. Music is universal. Hope things are going OK in your part of the world.
Warm regards,
Sally
