CD Soundtrack of Fall of The Roman Empire

Hello,

Does anyone know if it is possible to find a decent sounding CD soundtrack for Fall of The Roman Empire which doesn't cost a fortune?

I love the music from this film, and to me it represents the pinnacle of Dmitri Tiomkin's compositional skills. I have found this title on sale in CD format at Amazon for over $300, which seems a lot to pay.

I guess I would be happy to buy even a used CD as long as it's clean-sounding and without obvious defects.

I'd be happy to hear opinions on what I might do.

Many Thanks,

Joe

Amazon.com has two offers of FOTRE for 75 $ (Original Varese issue). The one you have in mind is the PEG-recording which is not as rare as the varese edition and totally overprized.

How about this: I don't know, if Amazon.de will be able to get the title, but it's worth a try:

Hello peter-anselm,

I think the $75 CD you are referring to is actually not the original soundtrack for FOTRE, but rather More Music From FOTRE. Maybe I'm wrong, but I checked the title tracks on the CD and it seems that the songs on the $75 CD are not the same as the title tracks on the original FOTRE.

Your view of this? Am I wrong?

Thanks for your reply.

The Varese issue (Classic Film scores) is the original issue of this score (as been released on LP). I have seen it on Amazon.com for 75 $. The PEG recording has been released later (together with Old man and the sea). It contains the same tracks. The CNR recordings has some additional tracks in mono.

I have the CNR and Varese recording and prefer the Varese one.

Hope this helps
Peter

I'm selling a mint genuine copy of MORE MUSIC FROM THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE for 50 euros (= USD $70.00) plus shipping and handling ($10.00), if you are interested.

Shipping would be via registered air mail (I'm living in Milano, Italy).
