The Greatest Story Ever Told by Alfred Newman

I wonder if any one out there can help me regarding some information regarding this soundtrack. I've noticed that it was released in 1998 on MGM/Ryko over 3 discs, while it has also more recently come out again in 2004 on Varese/Colosseum. Other than the cd cover art is there any other differences, ie. in sound quality. They both have the same tracks listed over the 3 discs. The 2004 Varese release is described as 'Deluxe' is this because there is more information within it, as in the booklet. Also was the 1998 release also remastered. Thanks for any help as I am intending to buy a copy of this score but don't know which to obtain, the 2004 edition is the more costly. Again thanks for any thoughts info etc. Andy

I have both CD-albums - and the United Artist LP.
The sound quality is the same on both CD-albums. It contains on one disc the same tracks as the Unites Artists LP (this was a re-recording for LP-album) and the other 2 CD's is taken from private tapes (from the film-recording session) stored Ken Darby - but the sound is fine.
The RYKO album has also the film-trailer.
I like the artwork/booklet of the RYKO at best.
Both albums is on e-bay now - the RYKO as new for around 9 USD.

Thanks for the information. As you say both releases are equal in sound quality etc and you'll know if you've got both of them, I'll buy the earlier Ryko release in 1998 as you say the information booklet is better, also I prefer the cd cover! Thanks again.
