Is the silver one a later pressing? My copy, which I bought immediately upon release, is the blue version. I don't have an answer to your question, though I'll keep my eye open for it. Is the silver-faced one more desirable or different in some way?

Hey Desertedshores,

Don't hold your breath on the "silver faced" copy. It's a CDR. YES! Go to the forum at www.filmscoremonthly.com and search for a Star Trek III thread. It's all there - with pictures! GNP ran out of their pressed - standard - run, probably had some booklets and inlays left and made a "second pressing" in CDR format - but sold at the regular price. Bad, bad, bad. That is my information.

In any case, after the expanded/complete FSM Star Trek II CD, a new, remastered and complete Star Trek III will not be far. I would say that's a safe bet. So instead of wasting money on a "collectible" CDR shouldn't you wait for the real deal, especially since you already have the original pressing of the first run?

Just a thought.

Best,
Burnie

In response to both comments...

It's not that this version is any more desirable or rarer. However, I am a collector and I have the US, UK and Japanese versions of this release and need this one to complete my collection.

Even though, a new "complete" version may be on the way from FSM, as a collector I still want this one.

And besides, it's not a sure deal. ST II was Atlantic Records (originally) and ST III is Capitol. Who knows if we'll ever see this?? According to what I've read, GNP tried for years to get the permission for a remastered, complete version and they wouldn't let them.

It may be years or never.

According to comments made on thehornershrine.com, the rights may be held by more than one label. It could be a long time before the CD gets a release.
