Question

ROMA by Nino Rota

I've noticed the track listings for the United Artists LP and Screen Traz CD are substantially different. Is the music the same (i.e. the LP had lots of arrangements of popular music from the 1930's)?

Screen Trax is the original score in mono. The LP has re-recorded versions in stereo and includes
the 'popular music' from the theatre scenes etc (Barafonda Theatre and Roman Festival). There is
another CD release on the Japanese label Verita note with the same mono tracks from Screen
Tracks but also the instrumental Rota pieces in stereo from the LP (tracks 13-17). However the
popular instrumentals and songs are only available on the LP-release. Why this is so I don't know,
but I think it is a real pity since I quite like the LP-presentation as a listening experience. I
transfered the LP-tracks to my iPod and mixed them in the original position with the LP-tracks
from the Verita Note-CD. However I would have preferred the non-Rota tracks be included in all
the CD-releases since they are part of the filmsoundtrack (rather than a Rota-only presentation).
Rota borrowed a lot from popular music anyway and the theatre tracks in Roma are very
Rotaesque.

Well actually this is rather pleasing, because I don't want the popular arrangements, only the original Rota music. Thanks for that information.
