Christopher Stone's TREASURE ISLAND: THE ADVENTURE BEGINS
Is there anyone familiar with this score who might tell me what the music is like -- is this classic
swashbuckling music in the Korngold style, or not really?

I have this score. It really like it. It is classic swashbuckling music, in the same vein as Korngold or Debney's Cutthroat Island. Maybe not as good, but still very enjoyable (and better then Treasured Island by Dodd in my opinion). If you like swashbuckling music, I think you will also like this score.

I also have this score its extremley rare and for me personally one of the best scores of this type..... What Christopher L. Stone wrote is really best classic swashbuckling music.....Christopher L. Stone wrote his score for a really large orchestra (The Pro Arte Orchestra Of London) and some pieces also are accompanied by a choir which is extremley effective. Orchstra conductor and sound engineers really did a great job at this score. If you somewhere see this cd (Amazon, Ebay or private seller) grab it. This score is a must for every good collection.

It is quite swashbuckling, but more fleshed-out and modern than Korngold (think CUTTHROAT ISLAND with 30% more Mickey Mouse). More than merely competent. Fabulously orchestrated. It's enjoyable, but, except for a few phrases, not particularly memorable. Its greatest fault is that the music is always starting and stopping and changing direction. There is no unbroken stretch of three minutes that you might call the movie's main theme. It does share that feature with Korngold scores in which a heroic fanfare is brought up in an instant, but here it usually interrupts the momentum rather than accentuate or punctuate it.
The one brief phrase that sticks in my head reminds me of the main title to Jerry Goldsmith's SMALL SOLDIERS (which, like CUTTHROAT ISLAND, this pre-dates).

Thanks very much, everyone, for your replies -- very helpful! (Sorry for the lateness in my
thanks, but even though I have my e-mail notification for responses turned on, I never got any
e-mail notifications, so didn't realize I had any responses until I just now happened to check the
thread.)
