Hook Complete Score?

Has there ever been an expanded release of Hook (John Williams) available? Does anybody have it?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt...
Yes, there was once an expanded release of this score, but it was an obvious bootleg. It was released by who-knows-who under the label Concorde (the label number was 9921). It consisted of two lengthy CDs with the complete score including unused and alternate tracks, all with good sound quality. The discs were silver factory pressed CDs and the inserts were full coloured. I shouldn't say this of a bootleg but, being an absolute master piece by John Williams, it was a really enjoyable release from 1999.

One caveat in regards to that Concorde label bootleg - even it didn't have the complete battle sequence from the end of the film. It jumps from Rufio's death to Peter selecting a new Pan and returning home - therefore...no Pan/Hook duel.

There are several other "promos" floating around out there - home made boots claiming to be the complete recording sessions. What source these people are getting the music from, I have no idea. And the sound quality varies from pretty good to poor - but they really are complete.

I can't say about HOOK for certain, but in many instances people create and upload/provide complete scores ripped from the surround channels of a DVD which has Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, because the surround channels generally have music-only or music with some sound effects. I know, because I've created a few such score rips myself.

It seems to me that no comprehensive issue of HOOK could really be complete without performances of the music as originally written for the never-produced musical stageplay. Yes, that's right. Didn't you ever wonder why there are SONGS for this Spielberg film and no others?

By the way, if you love the music, as I do, of "You Are The Pan" (A.K.A. "The Face Of Pan" on a Boston Pops album), check out the theme of AGNES OF GOD, by Georges Delerue.

Guess I'm bringing this back from the depths, but just happened to notice.

There was a 4-disc version released that had every cue of music (even the Hook/Pan end duel), plus alternate cues, plus deleted cues, plus two other discs with even more alternate cues, with orchestral-symphonic suites of some of the primary songs (i.e. the feast scene and the "Ultimate War").

I can't remember who released it, or when, or where it's from, but I do have it. Sound quality is... meh. All are 192 kbps, and there are some points where you can tell it was obviously put together from different sound ranges. Still, absolutely no SFX are on any of the cues.
