Wonder woman: boobytrap!

I spent my money on what i thought was a huge orchestral score for 'Wonder Woman' from
lalalandrecords. Turned out to be an orchestra out of the computer!!! I feel boobytrapped!

Caveat emptor. Still, I know how you feel. All I can say is welcome to the digital-age. PC-orchestras are cheap. However, there are plenty of old scores awaiting re-issue on both sides of the Atlantic. Not to mention that many new international scores still emphasize the organic orchestral feel you seek. Best.

Dirk, snatch up NATE AND HAYES! Awesome orchestral swashbuckler by Trevor Jones.

I ordered it; it better be good, because lately i have been dissapointed about a lot of scores who
were recommended by reviewers (Eraser, The Black Stallion Returns, Percy Jackson, Astro Boy).
Where are those memorable melodies from early works like The Rocketeer, Cutthroat Island,
ID4 etc.?

"Eraser"? It has a great and memorable theme! The rest of the score is full thematic/rythmic motives of suspense, action...
And it was composed at the same period (mid-90's) than "ID4" and "Cutthroat Island", why call these "early works"?

About Wonder Woman, didn't you check out the sample on La-La Land's website before buying it?

Yes i did, i must say, it is very hard to hear that is is not an actual orchestra. It's very well done! You're right, Eraser is also an 'early' work. I like the action material, but overall no melody sticks to mind.

Ah, too bad, cause to my mind, Eraser's main theme sticks (and a lot!), and all the rest too. I just love this one ;-)

True, Wonder Woman synths are quite misleading, doing the job quite well. The samples make it still recognizable as synth though, repeated listens are maybe necessary. Since La-La Land began to release scores from recent Warner animated shows (not including Shirley Walker's), they were all synth (with a few accoustic elements added some times).

What a load of rubbish....

It might have escaped you, but they also provided AUDIO SAMPLES of the tracks as well.

So before you ordered did you take a moment and LISTEN TO THEM?

Yes the composer is using "Symphony in a Box", but even so, the music is what really matters and this is IMHO is a great score and I'm happy to have it for myself.
