Help to verify my copy of Silvestri's Predator
Hey guys, I bought a copy of Alan Silvestri\'s Predator a month ago from a seller called 09this... Who is suspected to sell counterfeits which I noticed in this thread:
http://soundtrackcollector.com/forum/displayquestion.php?topicid=14434
And now I start to suspect that my Predator is a counterfeit as well. I have seen the 3 copies of Predator offered by this seller, which is strange.
Here is the current copy offered by the seller:
http://cgi.ebay.com/PREDATOR-Soundtrack-CD-ALAN-SILVESTRI-/220618046958?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Music_CDs&hash=item335ddc3dee
Can anybody help me confirm this? The booklet is too small for the jewel case, it is only 117 mm in height, and the smaller text is slightly blurry. The inner ring of the cd has the following text: VCL 08031022 1F Y IFPI LN46 and right next to the hole (etched in the clear plastic, not visible in scans) is IFPI NH01.

It looks pretty real, but i suspect it is not. The colors are to light and the printing is not as clear
as the original one. The booklet itself should not be too small. I have the original and it fits
exactly.
They did a good job though!

robban_s88 please remember to report this 09this to ebay .... I've done so + I've warned a couple of buyers that what they have bought is most likely boots/burned cdrs.

avatardk: Yes, I'm going to try and get a refund through ebay and report the seller. The worst thing is that 09this has virtually no negative feedback, my guess is that people don't notice the cds are counterfeits or by the time they do they have already given the seller positive feedback... :(

As someone who sees a lot of very good forgeries and counterfeits, the best thing to look for, if you are not familiar with digits on CDs, is the quality of the printing. Small time forgers cannot replicate the print quality. More often than not they use four or six matrix dot printiers, which when amplified reveal the matrix and the four or six colours used (as in this case). The original artwork, once magnified will not display any dots as very expensive printers are used to provide that quality.

Nicely done... that's even worse than an obvious fake.
If the booklet is too small, that's certainly a tell. Check the quality of the printed artwork against a real Varèse release, and compare the paper that was used (glossyness, thickness, weight,...)
I received a boot once too, which was very well made to a point where I can understand that most people can't tell the difference.
That + refunding all buyers that complain can give you 100% positive feedback.
I hope you get your money back!
