Yeah, I got it on Friday. It is a legit CD. I run a John Carpenter music website:
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Highrise/3756/jc/jccd.htm
They contacted me about their release. The CD is only 24:40. Inside has what I believe (they call) a 12 page book. The first page is a letter from John Carpenter stating he is surprised this got released.
The music appears to be identical to the isolated score on the LD and DVD (some of the cue titles are the same as the chapter stop titles). The ice cream truck music is broken up between the score but the volume is the same level (unlike the LD/DVD score). I was going to do a comparison, but managed to ruin my isolated score CD last night when I pulled out another CD.
I did a search of the record label website two weeks ago and could not locate this CD. The website is pretty odd and near impossible to navigate without using their cheat page. The label is:
RECORD MAKERS
UPC 3 700078 408971
The cover does not have the title on it! It is inside the liner on the left side. Mine had a sticker on the package that said, John Carpenter's ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13.
For years Varese told me they owned the rights to the score but they wouldn't release it because it was less than 30 minutes long and it repeated so much it was like 10 to 15 minutes of music. It's nice to finally have the last J.C. score available on CD legit.

Hi there,
Thanks for the info. I've ordered this CD through www.play.com (it would appear I got the last one they had in stock) and I'm really looking forward to this one.
I'll be sure to check out your site.
thanks again for the reply and the great information.

Great CD, but its French release is copy-protected. I actually succeeded in copying it to MP3 files (for my computer and portable CD player), but an artificial noise was introduced every five seconds in the music...

Are the liner notes in french????

The 16-page booklet insert is printed completely in English, and includes an interview with John Carpenter from July 2003, a short passage written by JC himself, essays about both the film AND the score, a passage from the CD's producer, lots of cool photos and international poster artwork from the film, a full listing of the cast & crew from the film, and of course, the track listing for the CD.
By the way, the sound quality of this release is amazing, and the bass throbs are so deep that I almost thought we were having an earthquake!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Hi there,
And thanks to all you guys who contributed an answer to my question. I got the CD in question a couple of days ago and I have to say, it's excellent. The sound quality is great and the liner notes are thorough and informative.
I urge any John Carpenter fan who doesn't have this one in their collection to pick one up as soon as possible.
On a side note, I also converted the tracks for listening on my MP3 player and haven't experienced any noise problems at all.
Thanks again guys.

I just copied the CD to MP3 files again and the problem disappeared... Probably a faulty copy. Thanks for the feedback, paul.
