I am glad I am not the only one who loves Vladimir Cosma's music! Just have a look at my collection to see what I have so far (CDs, few LPs, one 45RPM and still growing) and know this: there is no greater french comedy composer than Cosma! (but, if you are looking for some other name, try Gérard Calvi...)
I'd like to see your Cosma collection, too, surely... would you tell me what you have?

Hello,
I have a few Cd's, plus some LP's, that I have to add to my existing list.
Actually, he's playing his most famous themes with an orchestra this week-end in Paris, and I'll be there !!!
This is gonna be my first concert ever.
The man's worth the effort, I think.
You can check my list, ask questions if you will ...

Hi maitre.de.sinanju,
are you going to the Saturday concert ? I will also be there !!!!!! I am sure we'll have a terrific time.
Hope to see you there
Dorian

Actually, I'm going on sunday after-noon ...
Too bad !
But I'm sure both times will be great shows !

remowilliams343, April 1, 2005; 5:30 PM

That's a pity. Though I will probably stay in Paris till Sunday ...
At least we can then compare, which show may have been better, if the playlist was exactly the same, and so on ...

Hope we'll both enjoy it !!! I've been preparing in the last days, listening only to Cosma's music.

So the concert was brilliant !
We got what was on the program (l'as des as, la gloire de mon père, Rabbi Jacob, la vouivre, l'amour en héritage, la chèvre, la septième cible, Michel Strogoff, la boum 1 & 2, Diva, la bal des casse-pieds, salut l'artiste, le dîner de cons, le grand blond) + 2 extras (le chateau de ma mère & la course à l'échalote).
The players and the guest were great, too !
How about you ?

What can I say ?
After spending 14 hours on a way to Paris, visiting the city, meeting a good friend of mine, having a great time, buying new records, the concert of VLADIMIR COSMA was a climax of probably the best weekend I've ever experienced.

We had a great seats with perfect view. Mr. Cosma started with L'AS DES AS, LA GLOIRE DE MON PERE and LES AVENTURES DE RABBI JACOB. Later on, he was accompanied by Wilhemenia Fernandez, Syrinx, Bartek Niziol ... after LA 7ème CIBLE (that was one of the highlights) came an intermission. The second part started with MICHEL STROGOFF, which was the only thing I wasn't expecting to be played, that means I enjoyed it even more. La Wally sung by Wilhelmenia Fernandez was so emotional !!! The jazz quintet (including the great Philip Catherine, Syrinx and Niziol) played as if they were playing with each other since always. Along with SALUT L'ARTISTE, LE DINER DE CONS and PROMENADE SENTIMENTALE, they also performed LE PERE NOEL AU PARADIS -which you do not mention in your list-. Then came Reality instrumental, then Richard Sanderson came and sung the same tune. A perfectly arranged LE GRAND BLOND (hope the concert CD arrangement is the same !) was the final track.
Then we had the same 2 extra pieces - Valse d'Augustine from LE CHATEAU DE MA MERE and, finally, as Mr. Cosma announced it himself, "thème principal du film La Course à l'échalote".

Best, best, best... not only all those I mentioned, but all the other tracks as well (LE BAL DES CASSE-PIEDS, LA CHEVRE...) were all just brilliant !!!

I made some photos, not the best quality, but if you'd be interested, I can send you some. Did you also take some ?

42zaphod, April 4, 2005; 6:08 PM

We had the exact same thing ...
It still meant a lot of work for the orchestra !
I didn't take any pictures, I forgot to take my camera (if you can believe that !).
The concert was really perfect, and made me feel like getting the records I miss (and there's quite a few ...).
I'm glad you enjoyed your week-end in Paris.
How many of his soundtracks do you have ?

I have been searching for Cosma's L'As des As/L'animal for quite a while, but this CD remains
elusive.
Once I gathered there was an eBay auction but too late (the prize rose too high anyway). A lot
of people seem to be hunting after this release.

Any idea why this CD is so rare? It wasn't limited to my knowledge.

Christian.Quatremain, August 3, 2006; 12:31 PM

It's not that it would be marked as 'limited', but the fact is that most, if not all, of the Cosma CDs (the Pomme releases especially) come in quite a low pressing and are regularly becoming rare. In general, many CDs which are 14 years old are rare, and these early Cosma CDs are sometimes $150 worth !!

Just for a record, I am a big Cosma collector, and L'As Des As/L'Animal is the ONLY of the 23 volumes of the cinema collection which I have never owned or even held in my hands.

Thanks for your specific response, Zaphod.

well, your remarks do not raise my confidence that I will ever come across these two scores.
A pity, since the few excerpts I know are quite promising.

Christian.Quatremain, August 18, 2006; 10:51 AM

You never know what you can find. Besides, both scores' selections on the CD are truncated and miss some good tracks from the LPs, which are both fairly easy to find if you look around.

The theme of L'As des As has always been one of my favorites. To think back to the Paris concert last year, Cosma started his programme with the rousing overture. Wonderful ! A refreshing entry in his early 80's discography that really doesn't sound like the era.

PS if you are interested primarily in the music itself, you can contact me on my email and perhaps we can work something out
