Morricone: Occhio alla penna (Question about duplicate titles on one CD)

I'm trying to get rid of some duplicates in musicbrainz.
One soundtrack of "Occhio alla penna" (Digitmovies CDDM071) has
a lot of tracks with names like "(name) #2" and "(name) #3".
I suspect that these are variations (basically the same
composition, but a different arrangement) of the other
track with that name. Can anybody confirm this?

There area many "Italian" titles (Beat, GDM, Digitmovies) that will list the tracks as" 'film/CD title Sequence x' I believe it's due to the fact that the 'cues/tracks' did not have titles in the first place or that those titles are not included with the masters.

I would NOT say that it's a same theme or a variation - as "Sequence 1" could be a love theme where as "Sequence 2" is an action theme and "Sequence 3" does not sound like either Seq 1 or Seq 2.

I suspect it's better than "unnamed track 1" and "unnamed track 2". :)

That was not exactly my question.
The tracks are not with no meanigful name and a number,
they have the same name like other tracks and a number.

First 15 Tracks are
1. Non fare l'indiano (03:18)
2. Estasi del miracolo (02:56)
3. Alleluja del buon raccolto (03:17)
4. L'ultima tromba (02:13)
5. Sfida all'ultima forchetta (01:34)
6. Grandino e piccolone (01:02)
7. Dal sarto (01:15)
8. Occhio alla penna (02:23)
9. Pantomima del letto (01:42)
10. Passaggio dal male al bene (01:19)
11. Voahanana Manitù (00:34)
12. Solo il piccolone (00:52)
13. Prima dei pugni (02:20)
14. Due simpatici zozzoni (01:44)
15. Tanti pugni (03:13)

And now the tracks I ask about:
16. Occhio alla penna (#2) (00:50)
17. Passaggio dal male al bene (#2) (01:09)
18. Due simpatici zozzoni (#2) (01:41)
19. Prima dei pugni (#2) (01:35)
20. Solo il piccolone (#2) (00:55)
21. Voahanana Manitù (#2) (00:34)
22. Tanti pugni (#2) (01:37)
23. Passaggio dal male al bene (#3) (01:32)
24. Prima dei pugni (#3) (03:15)
25. Due simpatici zozzoni (#3) (01:18)
26. L'ultima tromba (#2) (01:09)
27. Occhio alla penna (#3) (01:44)

I would expect that e.g. track 21 is a variation of track 11, but essentially the same composition, but I do not own the CD, so I don't know whether this is true. It would be nice to have correct relations between the tracks (are they arrangements of the same composition? is one a later version of the other?) in the musicbrainz database and some people there are very strict about unconfirmed edits.

Basically you are correct, the #2, #3 are variations, sometimes less and sometimes more similar to the original. In the particular case of tracks 11 and 21 on Occhio alla Penna, the latter (#2) misses the voice part and is just the music background.
