I will survive & Rocky
Does Gloria Gaynor's "I will survive" ever appear on a Rocky film, or it just includes excerpts from "Gonna fly now"?
Thx a lot.

"Rocky" came out in 1976, while "I Will Survive" came out in 1979. If anyone borrowed from anyone, it would have to be that the writers of the song borrowed the bridge of "Gonna Fly Now" as part of their song. As most everyone knows, Bill Conti composed all of the music for "Rocky" including "Gonna Fly Now". Now, I did a quick scan on the Internet, and all I can find for the writers of the song are Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris. But I could swear that I have seen a copy of a single of "I Will Survive" that had listed, among other names, the name "Conti" So, while I can't find anything that states this specifically, I would say that the anthem of empowerment and independance borrowed the riff from Mr. Bill Conti (which is probably why the song is so popular, because it seems to generate the same feeling in your soul that the original Rocky soundtrack did). I would also guess that it was used by permission and that Mr. Conti even shared in the royalties.

UPDATE: I just looked up "I Will Survive" on ASCAP's web site, and the only writers listed are:
FEKARIS, DINO
PERREN, FREDERICK J
NO BILL CONTI!
I think if Bill wanted to sue for royalties, he could....it's obviously the same music....
